Switching to Strattera--Scared | ADHD Information
I took Strattera for three years and had great luck with it. I had a
few side effects: dry mouth and appetite suppression which went away
after a month or so, (but I definitely never gained weight, so don't
worry about that!) and an increased heart rate, which didn't go away (I
have an underlying heart arrhythemia though, so that could play into
it). It took me about 2 weeks to see full effects, but I was better
even after the 2nd day. Initially my doc started me out at too high of
a dose (40mg) and I was a total zombie that day, but I worked my way up
to 80mg with no problem afterwards. After 3 years Strattera eventually
started to lose its effectiveness and I had to go onto stimulants
(Daytrana, then Concerta), but from my experience the Strattera has had
much less side effects. Good luck with the switch!
I'm switching from Adderall XR to Strattera. (Overlapping to give the Strattera time to get into my system.) I'm really nervous because Adderall XR has worked so well (my doc has concerns about long term use).
I'm afraid to feel like I did before my diagnosis--how long do I wait to see if its working?
Will I gain weight when I switch?
Anyone else go through this? I'm afraid to change, but afraid of the long term effects of Adderall. My husband and I are hoping to start our family soon and I figured that it would be better to try Strattera now since there are fewer stressers. At least I know that if Strattera doesn't work, Adderall does. (No, I won't be taking any meds while I'm pregnant.) Still, I'm really nervous and scared.
Thanks.
