Look up guanfacine as well as Tenex. Guanfacine is the generic for Tenex.
My duaghter is on concerta (27mg) and guanfacine (2mg am and 2mg pm) and is doing very well well. The guanfacine can cause sleepiness and dizziness (it is a bllod pressue med), so when we were getting her to the effective dose, we would increase by 1/2mg increments and increase every 3-4 days: and start with night doses first. This can reduce side effects with this med (which we never saw, but others have). Studies of guanfacine with methylphenidate show the combo better than the methylphenidate alone and Shire's studies of thier long acting guanfacine (dose of 2-4mg/day) show improvement with the guanfacine alone. I did lots of research on this med prior to starting my daughter on it (in case it does not show ).
I can post links to articles if that would help.

Lots of good conversation and info on those 5 pages....Chase had some initial sleepiness on the med and it continues to help him to sleep well. We tried to go without his stimulant weekend before last and continue on with the guanfacine, and he got quite dizzy. I attribute that to the fact that he had only been on the full dose for a few days and his body was not yet accustomed to it. The problem is that now he is afraid to take the guanfacine w/o the ritalin....still working on convincing him...
