How long to settle in a new school? | ADHD Information

How long do your kids take to settle in at a new school?  My oldest took VERY long to settle at his creche, up to about six months.  We had tears and trauma every day. At his "big school" he was fine from day one. He knew a lot of people there.

My little one has been at his new school 5 days and I've had enough already.  I can't bear to see him so sad catching the bus every morning although his teacher assures me that by the time he gets there he is calmed down and happy.  We tried asking him if he wanted to take a toy - to no avail. He wants a "family on the bus", says it doesn't "go well", it "bumps".  It's all so new to him.  In a few weeks it will be old hat, but now it's very traumatic.  Think of us.

There are a number of things that make it kind of hard, particularly the fact that the school is 20km away (the only one that can cater with his needs and presumably the same for the other kids).  But yesterday and today he came home saying he has got a friend and telling me the little boy's name, so we are progressing. Every day he will be a little more used to it (every time he asks me to let him stay home I have to really harden my heart!)

Is it possible to find out who he plays with at school from the teacher and arrange a playdate at your house or at the park. This way you know he has a chum once he gets to school!
