med break? | ADHD Information

I'm also starting him at huntington learning center..they do a lot of work on study skills and reading and writing which he needs.  It's expensive but I have friends who say it's worth it.  The school can only do so much.I have a 7th grader too.  Though he isn't medicated and is mostly inattentive adhd and an organizational disaster. I know here the work goes in what I call waves, it goes from being hardly to much to getting more.  I would find out if the work load has stepped up and maybe if it has it is too much for your son to do not medicated.   My son is going to start the school's homework club after school to help him.  Find out if yours does and if that would help him.  It is suppose to be more one on one with the teachers helping them.  I do not know yet how well it will work since he hasn't started yet.

Just curious, we took our son off meds this school year, because he was fighting us to take them and we decided to see what happens.  The first few months he did great so I was pretty happy.  His parent conferences were good, even better than last year.

This semester, he's stuggling more in school.  He's in 7th grade now and the work is getting harder so I'm not sure if it's the lack of meds, or the nature of what's going on with 7th grade.

I never noticed much difference with him on meds so I'm not sure what to do.

Has anyone taken their child off meds to see?  What happened???

My son was off meds during Grade 3 due to side effects. I guess the school didn't like it. He spent a lot of time at the front of the school. Also in the principal's office. So I reluctantly pput him back on his meds at the beginning of Grade 4. It's ironic though. He doesn't take his meds on weekends or holidays. I was on the bus with him. A friend of mine was talking to me. Ds just sat there quietly. My friend said he was nice and calm and quiet. Usually he would be interrupting our conversation off meds.
