Son complains of "weird feeling" | ADHD Information

I'm also wondering if it could be related to the meds. We went off them but I assume it takes some time to wear off. He hasn't had the "weird feeling" lately but it is somewhat like you described. More of a sensation with no loss of consciousness. I still have my neurology appt & I will keep the log to see if it continues. I'm definitely not rushing into risperdal for it. The Psych didn't give me a good enough explanation of why we should be taking this drug so I'm waitng. Unfortunately, it seems we have side effects with all of these meds. The meds do work but there's always something worrisome that crops up after a couple of months on meds. We are med free now but his behavior at school is not as good as it was. Uggh! This is so difficult.

Hummous39101.2500115741It really does sound like a kind of petite mal epileptic siezure.  I had a friend in high school who had those.  She was there, but she wasn't THERE. She didn't convulse ot anything, just kind of went away for a few seconds or so, and then she was back. It's good that you're checking it out and not just taking the first hypothesis they give.

I agree with Jillette. I would check this out with a neurologist.  My ex has had very similar experiences.  In his case it is a form of epilepsy.  I'd check it out just to rule it out if nothing else.

Thanks. I do have an appointment with a pediatric neurologist scheduled for Feb. I asked the Psychaitrist and he seemed to suggest it was something chemical not a seizure and wanted to put my son on Risperdal in the evenings in addition to the focalin he was taking in the morning. But when I read up on risperdal, I got freaked out and won't do it. Lately he hasn't had the weird feelings and so I'm going to keep a log until Feb. I asked in another post & got no replies so far. If anyone had experience with risperdal.

Thanks

Hummous,

My DS was under Focalin XR for 6 months. At around 7 pm, he would get hyper and sometimes say his brain was being bombarded with sensations: colors, numbers, sounds, voices, even dreams, that would last a few seconds. I don't know if it's the same, but we left medications about 6 months ago, and he has never had that kind of thing again.

Now, the effects of Focalin take a few weeks to wear off, and I weaned him very gradually, 5mg less per week.

Just something else to consider :)

I would definetly call the doctor and due some testing maybe even a neurologist.

Hello,

My 11 yr old son has been complaining of "weird feeling" that happen periodically. They last about 5 secs (he is conscious during it) but says he sometimes "remembers his dreams" during these sensations. I took him off meds (he was on focalin) to see if he still had them with out meds and he did have them off meds as well.  He will complain of this perhaps 2 times a week. I asked the doc and they are not sure. They ruled out a cardiac cause.

Anybody heard of this?

KH

As NuADDWriterMom suggested, this might be an absence seizure. You should try again to them with the doctor.Have this checked out. My hubby had a similar thing and it turned out to be a very very minor form of epilepsy.  It doesn't happen to him any more.
