For Women - Does the Pill help with ADHD | ADHD Information

I take the pill, and no- no help.  what about the shot?

bugger!  maybe I am just hormonal afterall .  But truthfully, I went off the pill for 3 weeks, mostly due to the fact I lost them and found them again.  But during this time, I was in a complete fog, and quite abnormal in my thinking.  Got all paranormal etc.  Could hormones make this big an affect on the brain.  Stupid question really when we consider Post Natal Psychosis.

Do any women feel that when they are taking the contraceptive pill that they find their ADHD symptoms reduce?Well, I was off the pill for 1 year 6 years ago, and also for the past year, and have been much worse during those times, now that you mention it.  Of course there were other hormonal things going on at the same times (pregnancy and perimenopause).  Lack of concentration, "fuzzy thinking" and depression are commonly associated with these two hormonal events....hmmm, something to think about.  I have a friend who is pregnant right now and she just messed up about 7 times in a meeting we had.  She never would have done that before.  I think her hormones are totally fogging her brain!

yes, but only one of the three I've tried. The other two seem to have made me depressed.

I went off for 6 months last year I was waaay more hyper/impulsive/dreamy/etc.

ive found that the pill has really helped prevent alot of pms symptoms (when im not on it i sleep through the three alarms i set to wake me the day that i get my period) i also get sick much less frequently when i'm on the pill.

and most importantly, although being on the pill doesnt completely erase the week before my period where im unable to concentrate and meds dont do anything, it does significantly help it which definitely makes managing all the other pms/cramps etc symptoms much easier.

however, recently the pill's positive effects on my pms/add have stopped (after working for almost a year). im very confused about it and stumbled upon these discusson boards while trying to figure out some kind of answer and/or a ob/gyn that specializes in treating women with add (which im not sure actually exists)

im really frustrated that while books/drs mention that women with add are more likely to experience much worse pms symptoms there is basically nothing out there about what to do about it. and the little advice that there is tells you to just try to plan around those times!! if this happened to men with add there would be tons of stuff out there but because its women no one seems to care.

Nope, didn't help me.

Menstrual cylces have nothing to do with PMS and domestic disputes, so I'm told.
No! the pill didn't help, and the shot didn't help with ADHD but I really like the shot I haven't got my period in 6 months since I started getting the shot.Wakka Wakka
