Thank you vivster, I appreciate the encouragment! I think I will have to move up the dosage. I think when she took the 27mg Concerta the affect it had on her scared her and I did not want to start off on the wrong foot!

Congrats to you with getting on the honor roll! I am glad the you have had good results, I love the positive feedback about this patch. There doesn't seem to be to much negative. We will definatly hang in there, it's much easier to put this on her than force her to take a pill!

Thanks everyone for your advise!

We did not get her script from a psych. We went to her pediatrician. She started the Concerta at 27 mg and that was WAY to much she was acting very spacy and she said it made her feel weird. So the doctor said definatly lower to the 18mg. I suggested starting her on the 10mg patch because I didn't want it to be to much for her again. It was hard enough to go through the first time. Doctor said that was fine, we would watch her and I could cut the patch in half to give her 15mg if needed.

I am going to watch her for the next few days and see how she acts. THan kyou for your input. It seems to be sticking well when we put it on in the am, I know that has been a problem for some.

I had also read that you should NOT cut them in half.....I would check that out...I have heard, and read in the literature the same thing, Not to cut them. However, during the clinical trials they had us cut them in half to use . I have on occasion cut dd's in half, ( we have a box of 40 mg left over from the trial), and it has worked fine.

Don't lose hope Nicnac!  We started ds on ten mg and it didn't work out.  There was barely any change in his behaviour or his studies.  We went right to the twenty after that.  I love this patch, we have seen wonderful results.  We still have problems though.  They drive ds crazy itching at first, and even though he made the AB honor roll, we still have a tough time with his work.  This is a hard life for these kids but I think that this patch has helped mine ALOT.

Daytrana takes approxomately 2 hours to get into the blood stream and start working, it works for roughly 3 hours after removal.

It seems to have a MUCH smoother release than Concerta, or any of the pills. I would say since she was on 18 mgs Concerta she would need at least 20 mgs Daytrana, since it is only released at something like 1.8 mgs per hour, versus the much larger jolt of Concerta in the mornings.

I am surprised your Psych did not realize this, but you can look at the Daytrana wesite to get more info.

Hey all! I am new to the board. I have a question and realize that it's different for every child. My daughter was taking Concerta 18mg and we just started the Daytrana patch today 10mg. She had a very bad day, like she didn't take her medicine at all.

How long does it take for her to get it in her system? Will it take her body a few days to adjust to the new med? Mabey it's not strong enough and I need to use 15mg. Not sure can anyone give me some advise?

Thanks!

Both meds are methylphenidate in different delivery forms. I think you should discuss with the doctor going to 15 or 20mg depending on how well she did on the 18mg of concerta.
