Daytrana vs. Adderrall.. | ADHD Information

Share

My son, 7, was diagnosed with ADHD-combination a few months ago.  We started him on Adderrall and while it has definitely improved his ability to stay focused and less impulsive in school, I notice that he's much moodier.

So far, we're just using our family doctor, who doesn't really know much about Daytrana.  My nephew just switched after being on Adderall for the past few years and it seems to help his moods too.

I was just wondering if anyone else can share their experiences or research on this topic.  I will likely ask my DR to do his homework on Daytrana so he feels comfortable prescribing it - if it would indeed help curb the moods as well as the impulsve/attention problems.

Edited to add:  another benefit would be the longer lasting dose as my son plays soccer and many times his meds wear off before practice and he's back into mischievious mode

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks :)

goblue2339101.3568981482Goblue--We have noticed few backlashes that we had with the other meds.  Ds would have a bad day or evening every once in a while.  These were serious problems for us.  Most of hte time I would end up crying and hating my own child.  We have not had a day like this in a while.  This med is working for US.  We do homework right after school while the med is ill working.  BIG improvement for us.  Good luck

Here is a long thread on Daytrana.  I think that the main problems were some skin irritations that lately people have had success with spraying flonase on the area and letting it dry before applying the patch.  You should be able to learn a lot from this thread.

My son tried it for 3 days and hated having me apply it and remove it everyday. I hated the fact that it took 2 hours to start working, making us have to get up 1.5 early, just so it worked by the time he got to school.

We just switched back to Metadate this morning.

I think if there is no SI present and you are an early riser it can be a smoother transition with less emotions. I was hopeful it was the answer for ds but he could not stand having it on and it was horrible when he took it off early. We finally found that if he took prozac with his oral stimulant we could get a similar even release

neither of my kids did well on this... I think it bothered them having it on and so it commonly "came off"... when that did not happen they did seem to have a smoother late afternoon evening but when it was removed early ("on acciden't") they had BAD days!

it also caused rashes for us (the glue)

My DD is 9 and has been on Daytrana for a while now. We did the med trials and tried different dosages, she is on 20mgs now. We LOVE it, smooth release, no rebound and no rashes or irritation. it is the BEST med we have tried so far.
