Well I emailed Chases teacher to see how is doing on his new meds (which honestly I think he is doing alot better). She told me that its about the same as it was at the beginning of the school year, maybe a little better, but he is still having problems concentrating. I dont know whats going on, not sure if his teacher just doesnt have any patience or what! Does anyone have any advice?
Thankyou
Gosh, I hate to say it, but could this teacher just be past her expiration date where Chase is concerned? Could you ask the school to or you find an impartial observer who could observe him in class for a few days to get a true read on how he's doing? Someone that he doesn't know, who wouldn't blip on his "I-better-be-good" radar?Didn't you just recently start meds? Have you had a med check at the doctors yet? It may be that he needs a little bit higher dose...
I noticed my Chase's improvements before the teachers too. I noticed him being able to focus on his homework, and bringing less home to do so I knew he was using his time wisely in school, but the teachers have never really quit complaining (on grade cards mostly) that he forgets to turn in assignments from time to time....I tell him that it is important to remember them all, but in all honesty, it is not affecting his grades, so I am not losing sleep about it. I would never let him in on that opinion, though! Once his dosage was raised a bit, the teachers noticed the focus improving. It could also be that they are so used to him the way he was that they are slow to notice the change. Did you used to get phone calls/notes home that you are no longer getting with such frequency? You say that you emailed the teacher.....does the teacher usually let you know when Chase has acted up? If so, the fact that it took your email to get her to tell you that he is the same is somewhat telling, isn't it?
From experience of having parents in my classroom to observe their own child this just doesn't work. An impartial bystander is much better than the parent in most cases.
This year I had a mother at my school that spent a month in the classroom and yes while the mom was there the child was okay and I mean okay not perfect. Once she stepped out of the room he would go back to his old ways. Once she stopped coming he would go back to his old ways (basically loosing all composure and focus). The teacher recommended that they bring an impartial party to observe. The parents finally agreed with her and found someone through the local region center. There son was observed on several occasions .
I had an impartial party visit my son at daycare last year. I and the school were given great suggestions. Impartial parties are the way to go in my opinion.
4myson39101.8782638889I'd go to class for a full day, with my notebook in hand twice, maybe two weeks apart. See for yourself.Maybe the dosage just needs tweaked....discuss it with the doctor, and good luck!Yes Chases meds just recently got changed. He was on adderal xr, then on focalin, now he is on ritalin. He takes it twice daily. I have noticed such a change in him, for the better. Just gets me so upset when I hear there isnt much change, when I have seen a dramatic change in his behavior. He has to go back this month for another check up, I will mention it to his doctor. (about the teacher saying he still isnt concentrating). Sometimes I think they want a miracle over night. And no the teacher doesnt email me frequently about his behavior. I normally have to ask her.
Thanks for your replies.
