I'm new to this forum and have been taking Adderall (40-60mg/day IR) for about a year. I take it early in the day & notice that at night, I become really down & depressed, sometimes emotional as the effects of the medication wear off. Does this happen for anyone else taking Adderall or other ADHD medications? I went to see a psychiatrist about the depression and she prescribed Effexor, but I have not started taking it yet. Any advice or feedback is appreciated, thanks.

Yes I get that too. I take 20 adderall at 7am and 20 adderall at 2pm. So it lasts until 7 or 8 pm then I have a few drinks (not recommended) but that seems to help a bit, but the doctor prescribed prozac and it seems to be helping with that a little bit, only time will tell. But yes, I think once the "energy" wears off the depression can set in.
Doesn't seem to be any way around that. I just added a bcomplex supplement to my regimen as well. Heard it helps with rebound symptoms. I'll let you all know.ALL IR stimulants are known for a rebound effect. It is often compared to hitting a brick wall. I would guess that you would experience much less of this rebound if you were to try Adderall XR instead of the IR, have you tried that? Good luck.
Sweetienat123, I too feel that sometimes when the adderall wears off. I was just prescribed lexapro to help counteract depression/anxiety. Only taking for a few days, so too early to tell. Just a little warning about effexor....it's supposedly really hard to come off of. So, if it doesn't work for you, be prepared for a pretty rough time coming off.
Good luck!
