Thanks for your reply Risenred!
We do the exact same thing as you: we give ds vanilla flavored Ensure everyday, mixed a little bit of Nesquick.
I also got a lot of replies from other moms in the parents' board and it doesn't sound like stopping the meds on the weekend is the best idea! (It is very hard to talk to his pediatrician but that is another story)
Good luck to you too!

I sympathize wth you. My son is on Daytrana patch and has a problem with eating as well. Since I don't have experience with Concerta, I won't respond to that particular issues, but you might want to talk to his doctor about it. I have started giving him Boost or Ensure drinks in the afternoon when he gets home from school. Packed with vitamins and energy. I buy the vanilla and then can mix chocolate syup in it or sometimes blend in orange sherbert and ice cubes for a smoothie for him.
He usually gets his appetite later in the evening though, and I now let him eat as much as he wants in the evenings after he eats his dinner (something I have always thought was bad for you). I guess we have to be flexible about a lot of things with ADHD. His appetite hits him and he will eat until bedtime. I make sure they are healthy for the most part (apples, yogart, etc.), though I do let him have chips or something if he has eaten enough of the rest.
As for the weekend issue, for my son, it is too hard on him to be off and on. He seems more stable emotionally and happy if we just stick with a routine. Some medications can't be stopped and started like that and others can. You doc can help you decide.
Good luck!!
Hi everyone!
I do not post here often but I find this board a great support system.
Here's my question. My 8 year old ds has been taking Concerta (18 mg) for about 8 months. It helps him focus at school but it is very hard to keep his weight up when he is taking it. We do not give it to him during long holidays but I was wondering if it was safe to stop every weekend.
When we stop for a few weeks, he takes a couple of days to re-ajust and he sometimes gets stomach aches during those days.
We don't see a need for him to take it on the weekend. It doesn't seem to affect him socially and it is so nice to see him with an appetite.
Is there a physiological reason for him not to stop the meds on the weekend.
