Fast Forward Program?? | ADHD Information

My son was diagnosed ADHD between kindergarten and 1st grade.  Recently, he was diagnosed with CAPD and a speech/language disorder; he is currently in 2nd grade.  I was wondering if anyone has had any success with this program?  My son has a referral to see an audiologist who performs this computer program, but I don't want to waste time or money on it if it doesn't work.  Thanks!

Hi.  My almost 14 yr old son did FastForWord back when he was 7 or 8.  We saw really good gains in his post FFW expressive and receptive language scores plus his overall day to day language skills.  We were careful to research it and we chose a speech pathologist who was highly trained in administering the program.  It is intense....but it has to be to be effective.  My son has both ADHD and an auditory processing disorder.  He has been tested by a highly skilled PHD level audiologist at a local teaching university.  I do not regret spending the money for the program.  It helped his underlying weak phonemic awareness skills tremendously.   I suggest you try to get on the CAPD listserve moderated by Dr. Jay Lucker, a Phd level audiologist who is very experienced with CAPD (central auditory processing disorder).  You will find a lot of info on FFW and CAPD.  Go to http://listserv.icors.org/archives/CAPD.html  Also check out www.ncapd.org which is an organization dedicated to  this disorder.

Good luck.  Okiemom
