Wellbutrin and other dopamine boosters don't do much for me.  I was having weird reactions to Wellbutrin just by itself.  It was pretty apparent that dopamine wasn't my problem, and that seratonin was (for depression).  Round that off with some Strattera and I've had a winning combo.

Wellbutrin's worked great, although very gradually, for my depression, but I was on it for a year before I ever heard of it being used to treat ADHD.  Obviously it was not working for my ADHD symptoms and I've since added a stimulant.

I don't know anything about the head trauma thing, but sound like you should check that out with your doctor.  As far as seizures on Wellbutrin, the chances are very minimal (although being anorexic/bulimic raises those chances), and I was under the impression that the cardiac problems with people on stimulants were mostly people who already had a heart problem but didn't know it.  Of course that doesn't much help you if you don't know you have a problem, huh?

I'm glad I have you concerned.  There are many usefull drugs out there, Wellbutron included, but the drug that works wonders in one person may kill another.  Its most important that you let the doctor know everything you can about yourself, and do what you did here... ask questions, and always do your own study if you suspect something isn't right.  I found out about the warning on Wellbutrin on the internet.  take care

Hello gee and welcome to this forum.  I don't know much about nothing, but I know a little about somethings... uh, I don't know everything about all the things all of the time, and I don't know nothing about some of the things most of the time, but sometimes I know about stuff.  My phychiatrist tried Wellbutrin with me before giving me stimulants (Adderall-XR).  I don't know if Wellbutron is normally used for treating ADHD, and I was not diagnosed yet as being ADHD, he perscribed it for depression.  Boy, did it bum me out.  I thought I was loosing it.  I became extremely agitated within weeks of starting on it.  The doctor had my entire medical history at his disposal, including the fact that I had suffered a severe open head injury in an automobile accident, yet he gives me wellbutrin, a drug they reccomend not be given to patients who have suffered any head trauma.

I am 51 and have been using Adderall-XR for 4 years now, I have never had a problem with sudden death, I'm afraid I'm gonna have to suffer a long long long death.  Actually I already died twice in the accident I busted my head open in, so the resat is icing on the cake.  good luck, nice to meet you.

Thanks for the kind words, KIDD_ROCK4444,

Now that you mention head trauma, I was just at the hospital in December because I had hit my head very badly during an accident.  Now you have me concerned about taking Wellbutrin, let alone the highest dose...

Hi,

I am what you would call middle-aged (I wouldn't  necessarily call me that , )... and was just diagnosed with ADHD.

Having read some about it, suddenly so many things in my life are starting to make a lot more sense.

So, on one hand there is some feeling of relief, but on the other hand -- not a very rational reaction, I know, but I feel quite upset, even angry, because I think that my whole life could have been so much better, so much different, have I been diagnosed a lot sooner.

Did any of you feel the same way?

The psychiatrist that I started seeing recently, put me on Wellbutrin a few weeks ago, before I was diagnosed, though he says that he suspected it from the beginning, and that was one of the reasons he initially prescribed Wellbutrin.  I don't feel much difference at all yet, but he doesn't want to switch me to a stimulant quite yet, and just upped the Wellbutrin to 450 mg a day.  The only thing I notice withh Wellbutrin is terrible terrible insomnia.

Do you guys have much experience with Wellbutrin for ADHD, and if so, how did it work out for you?

Also, I read about danger of seizures from Wellbutrin, and, not much more exciting: danger of sudden death or serious cardiac problems from stimulants, to people who are not very young...

Any suggestions in general for a newbie?  As you can see, I am just "a little" overwhelmed...

Thanks, I am glad I have found this forum.
