Dairy Free? | ADHD Information

Share

I have recently taken my son to a holistic doctor.  I posted his advise on the alternative natural adhd treatment page.  Has anyone here tried the Leaky Gutt diets (No dairy caesin or gluten free)? Just wondering how they are worked for you if you tried them?

How about Heavy Metal Toxicity screenings - has anyone had their children tested?

You can find lots of information on these things on the Alternatives board.  Good Luck!

Both my kids are ADHD (16 and 14) I took the first off milk because it physically made her sick.  Then when my son was 6 I took him off dairy after reading an article on the notice board of the therapist he was seeing. Up to this point we had a wild child - he would not really communicate with us and was really difficult - tantrums galore.  After we took him off milk, his teacher said that she had witnessed a miracle!  He began to communicate with us and was alot calmer.  We subsequently had to medicate as he still was incredible impulisve.

We have tried gulten free but it was too difficult as he began stealing food.  He is very under sized and under developed and I think that a gluten free diet may work!  He also get sore joints which can also indicate and intolerance.  One day when I have more energy I'll try it again!

We are dairy and gluten free -- thanks to places like Whole Foods it is relatively easy and convienent.  Our local grocery has even started carrying many alternative products.   We saw a huge difference -- especially w/ the dairy.

Dairy free is definitely a lifestyle change.  We had to do this at a very young age with our oldest daughter (non ADHD) because she has severe food allergies.  She is allergic to Dairy, Eggs, Nuts, Wheat and Pollen which limits her fruit intake.

It is overwhelming at first, but after awhile, it is second nature.  She is 13 now and I never worry about her.  She is very adept at reading labels and if she doesn't know what is in a food, she simply doesnt eat it.

Hi,

My son chewed the paint off a zipper pull when he was 3. I had him tested for lead poisoning and the resulting level was normal. (I wanted to insure the lead wasn't the cause of his hyperactivity.) I believe I read somewhere that it doesn't take a whole lot of lead exposure to end up with poisoning, but I can't say for certain.

If NO Dairy works I will be spreading the word like wild fire.  We have been through so many struggles so it would be a relief to find out it was just dairy, because that we can fix.  Thank you all for responding it is reassuring to hear that others have tried it and seen results!!!

Thank you!

Just read two really good articles on dairy and how awful it is! This suprized the heck out of me!!! I got it from www.wellbeingjournal.con

We are going to only eat raw dairy products because of the many many health bennifits! they aslso showed people that got sick from traditonal grocery store dairy that did awsome on the raw dairy. This is definetly worth a read if your considering dairy as a culpert!!

Has he been tested for Celiac's disease? Small size and joint pain are 2 of the symptoms.

We are also Dairy free and gluten free, and since I am vegan, almost animal product free. Whole foods is a great place, although dh calls it "whole paycheck"!

Thanks for suggesting Celiac - it has been on our list of things to look into. It was strange that when I was home schooling him for 12 weeks and then when we spent a month on a very activity holiday he didn;t complain at all about joint pain.  He has been back at school for 3 days and the pain has begun again.  He will be turning 14 in 2 weeks so then we will begin another series of tests to see what is going on - No sign of puberty - he is about 4ft 8in and not quite 5 stone!

I recently took my 9 year old son with ADHD to a peditric allergist and he tested everything.... after I'd already tried all sorts of diets, the Dr. Feingold diet, gluten free, dye free, preservative free... it didn't seem to make much of a difference.

So far we found a mild reaction to Oats... didn't see that one coming! We're still testing though, we've just started to add things back into this diet.

I have found ADDING things to be helpful though.... Essential Fatty Acids, Vitamin D and a good suppliment - I use GREENS capsules.

There is a post on the altern med link names "Holistic No dairy and more"  Check out what Meli found on SOY! Its on page 5....very informative.
