My dd used Strattera for 2 years with the only problem being weight gain. ALOT of the problems can be avoided by a slow ramp, starting at 10 mgs and gradually going up to the target dose. Target dose is 1.2-1.8 mg per kilo(2.2lbs). And it is VERY inportant not to be too low or too high as it can cause mood swings etc at the wrong dose.
It DOES take 4-6 weeks after reaching the target dose to se results, actually 6-8 weeks if you include the ramp period.
you can get more info at Strattera.com, their website has full dosing info and side effects etc listed.
All in all it was a wonderful med for my dd, but she gained entirely too much weight while on it, and since she started chunky this was not a good thing.
my dd has lost weight through being on Concerta.I know it take s a while for strattera to wok and get in the system ??10 mg is the smallest dose, and should be what was started, but 18mg is not that high. Just make sure he does not ramp it too fast.she gets weighed ever time she sees her Doc .He said he is starting her on a small dose to see how she gets on then stopping concerta when strattera is in her system. She should have been started at 10 mg. , then gradually moved up from there. So she weighs roughly 88 lbs? If so her Target dose would be between 48 and 72 mgs. The Psych needs to get a VERY accurate wieght in order to prescribe this med, the dosage is extremely weight dependent, and the wrong dose will cause side effects that are not desirable.hi sorry she is on 18 mg .
Id say she weighs about 40 kilo or less. She is on low dose initially to see how she gets on.
36MG concerta 10mg strattera .I dont know what the target dose is.She stops Concerta in around 6 weeks. What is her weight? The target dose would be 1.2-1.8 mgs per kilo(2.2lbs) body weight. for example a 50 lb child would take between 25 and 40 mgs, any higher or lower will cause mood swings etc.Yes, it takes 4-6 weeks after the target dose is reached. What mg did she start at? How long is the ramp period? What is the target dose?
these things will tell you how long it will take to get the full effects.
she has started to take strattera but still on Concerta as apparently it take 6 weeks to get in the systemThen the concerta is causing rebound and may need to be changed or the dosage adjusted. My dd lost weight also. Also, strattera didn't work for very long. We had to switch to stimulants after 6 months ramping up Strattera to the max. She took it morning and afternoons. It also had a negative effect on her personality.what kind of negative effect.
I know when my dd Concerta wears off she is unbareable .Shwe has rages etc
Hello. New to this board, but was previously on Strattera for about a year.
I did not object to trying it, and, although my experience is limited, it seemed to help with focus to some degree. However, I stopped taking it after suffering some rather, or at least to me, severe sexual side effects, and difficulty urinating. (I'm male).
Best of luck to you.
