I'm in Missouri, and we also have Blue Cross Blue Shield and Caremark through dh's work. I order all our meds (Adderall, Tenex and my diabetic meds and supplies) with mail order. Here Caremark even encourages it, cause it saves them and us money. For my diabetic stuff I get a rx for 90 days with 3 refills, so I have to send it only once a year, the refills then I order online. For the adderall and tenex I go back every 3 month to get the rx.
Call your insurance who handles the rx's and find out if and how they cover it.
walgreens was mail order for many meds, including stimulants i'm told. 90 days worth. i have a form somewhere from a friend of mine whose daughter was on adderal. again, we tried adderal but had too many side effects. right now i'm too cautious to order 90 days worth, we are still working out the kinks with short acting ritalin. the pediatrician would like my dd switched to ritalin LA but i'm afraid she'll have the sleep problems again:(
It would depend on the med. Stimulants like Concerta, Adderall, Daytrana etc cannot be ordered by mail as they are a controlled substance. Straterra and Tenex can be because they are not controlled substances.
I have to disagree with this statement. I have been ordering both Concerta and Focalin for months from my healthcare provider's mail order pharmacy... a company called Caremark. Our doctor writes the script for a 90 day supply, and they cost me each for a 90 day supply. If Concerta and Focalin had generic equivalents (which they don't), it would cost us for a 90 day supply.
We get this mail order pharmacy benefit through Blue Cross Blue Shield federal employee program. Maybe the rules are different from state to state. We are in Oklahoma and the script is written by a OK physician, however, the pharmacy is in another state.
If your insurance doesn't provide mail order benefits from a firm like Caremark, this option may not be open to you. I am not sure of the policies about ordering stimulants from direct online pharmacies on the internet. Parents who DO have this kind of benefit available through their insurance often times don't realize it. I knew I had it, but didn't think for a long time I could order stimulants because of Oklahoma's short 3 day rule.... where the script was only valid for 3 days after the date written. I was wrong....and I had wasted tons of money not knowing this. BTW.....our state recently changed the 3 day rule to 30 days, although the 3 day rule didn't prevent me from ordering mail order.
Mellowdancer.........I would start by making sure you understand any and all pharmacy benefits you are entitled to thru your insurance. Okiemom
okiemom39115.2162731482Well I am in TX, and Caremark is my RX insurance company. It is illegal here to get them Through the mail. It does depend on the state I guess.I live in PA. I just started ordering my sons meds through the mail. He is on Focalin. It is a controlled substance too. I didn't think I could order through the mail because of this. The doctor said i could, so i set it up last month, expecting it to be rejected. It went through. My doctor had to write out a prescription for a 3 month supply. I use Express Scripts. This is a benefit from my husbands job. It cost me as much for the 3 month supply as it did for 1 month supply that I went to the pharmacy to purchase. Check with your rx plan and see if the offer mail order.I read on the post about mail order meds. We don't have the best rx plan and I was paying almost 100 per month for meds. How do I find mail order rx???
It would depend on the med. Stimulants like Concerta, Adderall, Daytrana etc cannot be ordered by mail as they are a controlled substance. Straterra and Tenex can be because they are not controlled substances.
