Started Daytrana today..... | ADHD Information

A 15 mg patch would be barely equivalent to 10 mg Focalin XR.

The patch takes roughly 2 hours to get into the system , and lasts for 12 hours, or 3 hours after removal. My dd adjusted to it immediately, but I would give it a week or so before talking to the psych about adjusting the level.

My son just started Daytrana today, he switched from 10mg Focalin XR.  I did not feel the Focalin lasted long enough and the evenings were sometimes unbearable.  Anyway, my son wore the patch for 9 hours...from 6:30am to 3:30pm.  The afternoon was great, but this evening at Cub Scouts (6:30-7:30), he was all over the place...bouncing off the walls so to speak. Is this normal?  Also, while settling down he became itchy on his arms and legs (not where the patch was though).  I am not sure what adjustment time we need.  He is on the 15mg Patch.  ANy advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

My ds was on 10 mg and then we bumped him up to 15. The only issues (which are kinda big ones) are the following.

The patch site is very red and inflammed. Make sure you use baby oil on the site after the patch is taken off to remove any extra adhesive.

The company is having issues with the back tabs not peeling off as easily as it should. I have found that putting them in the fridge helps (dont ask me why). If you are having issues with them not peeling and you are wasting patches, call Shire and they will send you a "trial card". All you need is a script from your doctor. Take the script and trial card to the pharmacy and you will recieve "free" patches. Shire is working on this issue but for now this is a fix. If you live in NY State you will not be able to use the trial card. You will have to take the card and script to PA. NY State does not participate with the trial cards as they see it as illegal "peddling" (You are getting a controlled substance for free)

The legs get dried out from the patch being there. Use a healing cream like Eucerin Healing Cream works great.

I can say that I did change him back to 10mg Dexedrine but only because his legs can not take what the patch was doing to him.

Hope it works for you.

Maxed Out

Another thing that reportedly works as a topical treatment for rashes is Nasonex.  Spray it on and rub it in.  See the Datrana anyone thread.  I'll bump it.  It's near the end (p15 on) but you could put Nasonex into the search engine and see what you come up with. http://www.adhdnews.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=23595& PN=2

We're trying the 10mg Daytrana patch tomorrow. We also have 15 mg patch
if 10 mg is not enough. Switching from Focalin (5mg, 4 times a day).
Keeping my fingers crossed.
