Hey erynkkgrl, when i started adderall (xr) I had never smoked a cigarette in my life. Unfortunately this changed after I went on my senior trip and said "hey ill stop when i get home, its senior week!" well the week when i came home, i decided to take a week off of adderall and I didnt smoke at all. The next week i started my regular adderall schedule and that day I craved a cigarette!
The reason behind this... First off, i know you have noticed.. nicotine (being a stimulant) on top of adderall ( another stimulant) increases many effects adderall produces. It actually causes temporary Euphoria - a side effect of adderall. If not Euphoria, then lets say, you get a very nice buzz.
Anyway, I hate it, and regret i ever let my friends talk me into smoking. Since that day, i havent quit nicotine. When i dont take adderall, i dont have any craving and dont smoke at all. It sucks, because since then, adderall hasnt worked like it did before i begun smoking. If anyone does know a way around this... help us out!
also, smoking doesn't decrease anxiety, it actually puts major stress on your major organs and CAUSES anxiety. Of course someone addicted to nicotine will feel better after a smoke, but this isnt becuz it is decreasing anxiety, its covering their craving.
Talk to the doctor about this. Sometimes the stims can increase anxiety. This may be contributing to your urge to smoke.I have been taking adderall for 3 years now. I quit smoking for a year and quit taking adderall. The minute I started taking adderall again I started smoking. Its not normal smoking, It is CHAIN smoking.... has this happened to anyone before. Is there something that I can do to help stop these urges?
