Help!  I am about to pay 8,000 dollars for my son to have neurofeedback.  He is 8 yrs old and has adhd.  I need to make sure this is worth it.  Has anyone ever tried this?  Am I paying to much? Do you know anyone who has had this done.  Please, any info will be helpful. It's no miracle cure. I think you should wait until you are really sure. Personally, I wouldn't do it. My SIL did it a few years ago, and her son hasn't made any noticable progress.I tried this and it was interesting.  My son had electrodes on his head and when he calmed his brain a video game would progress.  It was fun for him.  He got really good at it but it did not help his behavior.  So far I have gotten the best results with diet and suppliments and some exercises to integrate infanile reflexes. Did you notice any difference in his academics?  The people down at Neurofeedback guarentee me success?  They said this.  I am so scared, it's alot of money.  My son is very violent with me but he is not horrible at school.  Although, he can't stay still or focus real well. What type of diet did you do?  I am sorry if I am prying, I am desperate.

Personally, I think this is a really bad idea. Firstly, this price is outrageous. I don't know how many sessions there are, but people on this board have paid maybe 00.  Secondly, my general impression is neurofeedback did not work for the majority of the board members. If you want to pursue this, do maybe 20 sessions and see if you get results. Do not sign up for 60 or whatever it is they are going for.  As far as the guarantee goes, tell them to give you the contract and you'll review the fine print. There's no guarantee. If there was, many of us would pay ,000 to be rid of this condition in our children. I would love to know what their definition of "success" is exactly. It could be a 1% improvement.

You should do a search on "neurofeedback." I think there's a post called SMART Brain Games. I'll bump it for you on the Alternatives board. It's the same thing.

I use: High epa fish oil, amino acid supplement, co-10 enzyme, therapy(MFCC), and homeopathy. And commencing in the next month: OT and social skills class. I see academic improvement as a direct result of the theraputic fish oil dosage. I don't think the therapy is doing a thing, but I'm giving it a good college try.

NoTellin39115.8854513889mkearney, I don't think any of us would be able to offer up a miracle cure, but you can check out the Alternatives to Meds section of this board.  Many of us use diet and supplements such as Omega fatty acids, Magnesium and others w/ success.  There is also a thread on crawling exercises which stimulate a part of the brain.  Good luck, I hope you find the answers you seek.I took my son off of msg, red dye, processed sugar, (he has cane extract),and most dairy.  Oh asparatame too.  He takes fish oil, (high EPA) amino acid complex, b complex, and a liquid mineral suppliment. I give him cholrella too but because he is small.  He takes concerta 27.  The difference is last year he was on 54 mg concerta. We are having struggles in school this year his grades are up and down.  I was reading the tenex thread.  Very interesting.
No I did not see improvement in academics.
Just get a money back guarantee.  It was fun for my son.  I don't think it can hurt!
I does hurt to pay for nothing!
