Just wondering if anyone has experienced this.
My 6yo son has taken Focalin for almost one year and things are going great. Two days ago his doctor prescribed Amoxicillin for an ear infection and I am wondering if it could be intensifying normal ADHD symptoms. Of course, he is the chatty kid almost 24/7, but this is unbelievable!!! Literally, he ran down the stairs this morning (6:30am) talking/yelling about Curious George, which he normally watches at that time. Right away, my husband and I noticed something doesn't seem right. We have been watching him all morning and are trying to figure out what he has either eaten or drank that could have added to this. The only change I am coming up with is the antibiotic. Anyone else ever notice this???
Thank you for your thoughts! I lurk and post periodically on this board and can say I have picked up some very valuable tips!
That is very interesting! I almost think that I have read about this somewhere....but can't be sure.
I would definitely keep my eye on him, and write a note to his teachers on Monday to let them know what you have observed, and to ask for their support and patience during the course of the antibiotic.
My 2nd child, son almost 6, who I suspect has ADHD gets very hyper on amoxicillan. I have noticed it EVERY time I give it to him. It's amazing. Not only is he hyper, he can't focus at all. Last year his Pre-K teacher really noticed it too. His pediatrician guessed that it was the red dye in the liquid. It is loaded with sugar too. She did not think it was the antibiotic but all the additives. I haven't noticed it as much with augmentin but that is flavored with something white. Good luck. I am sure it will go away when he finishes the amoxicillan. I would let his teacher know though.
