Mariaven, he is 8 and in second grade.  I am very pleased with him. Good for him!!!!

I am lucky, my son is good at reading but he doesn't like to do it  Or says he doesn't anyway, sometimes I think he just says he doesnt like doing things becuase he knows I want him to do them and he just wants to rile me

Once I get him started he does it okay, they have the whole week to read their books and for the first two weeks of this term he had it done in one day, and now he gets three books a week and the other kids have one each.  He manages the three in two days,  which is good.

I am a good reader too and I love it. But it has to be a book I want to read.

Gutsy:

How old is your child?

Mine will be seven on Feb 11 and is on his last level of preschool, obviously we have a different system. He doesn't get books yet, he just gets individual readings. I have to add, and I suppose you know, that we are not English speakers here, so he is learning English as a second language. He is just grasping Spanish reading and he enjoys it because there is less problem with pronunciation, the syllables are pronounced in the same way as they are written. This is why he finds English reading much more difficult. So it will take us a lot of practice!!!

Now that we've got used to this year's system of working, it seems so much more logical than last year's - we get reminders of things, days to plan things, we know when things are happening - and the structure really suits him. We have the same two days every week to study for spelling tests on Fridays.

good for him!!

Excellent!!

My ds also has his spelling tests every Friday. We get the words on Mondays, then he studies them through the week. He usually does excellent on them, but it takes us hard work at home; however, lately it is being smoother than before; and I am very glad about this. Less stress for me.

English reading is another story. It is evaluated every 15 days, and the readings are coming longer each time. My poor ds just hates them, and we battle a little to study them. Tomorrow he will be evaluated again for reading, I am sure he will do better since we have been practicing a lot. Anyway, Spelling is his major success.

Good for him! My ds got 25/24 on his weekly spelling test!
