New and saying Hi | ADHD Information
I havent been "offically" diangnosed but my friends wife is a psycharisast and she said without a doubt I have ADD.
My main thing that really seens to affect my daily life at work and
school (college in evenings) is my memory. You can tell me something to
my face and I will turn around and take two steps and forget what you
told me. I cope with this easily though, I just turn around and ask
again.
The thing that worries me mostly is school. I will be paying attention
(or I think I am not really sure) and take good notes and listen to the
prof. When I get home to do home work I forget everything that was said
in the lecture. I go back through my notes to do my homework. When test
time comes I go completly blank. Its as if I have no long term memory.
I have done a good bit of reading on the net and really was not able to
find any other accounts of this, but I did read that people with ADD
are very good test takers. I am horrid at tests no matter what subject,
even if I like it ok.
Is this also a symptom or am I looking at other issues also?
Hello CrAcKerKorEaN, and welcome aboard. Take your time and go through the various sections of the forum here. many of your questions and concerns are covered in great detail by fellow ADHD'ers who know through personal experience what you are going through.
Their are other factors to consider when it comes to memorey and perception such as previous head injuries or even diet. Even with proper medication, if I don't take some pains to insure I am fueling my body and mind with the neccesarry nutrients, I not only get hungry, I get stupid. Hope you find the answers you need here, good luck.
I have to agree on the diet thing. Nutrients feed the brain too. Exercise too. I space out really bad if I don't eat right.I eay pretty well and as far as exercise I try to ride the trainer as
much as i can in the winter. When it warms up I am usually on my
bicycles 3-5 times a week.
I'm not a good test taker. I do average or a little better on them, but it's a challenge. When I study I have to write things out word for word about 3 times before it sticks and then usually only long enough to take the test and it's out of my head again. I was just recently tested for ADD and other things and they found my short term memory to be only in the 21 percentile. That's really bad. You may want to try tape recording your lectures to play back when you're studying, and also take notes during the lecture and while you're playing it back to help retain the information. My long term memory is fine.. but sometimes what I do remember is distorted (but that's another disorder on my part).
