This was his first dose and it was only .5 mg. I know it may take a while for his body to adjust. But as a mother I can't see letting my child vomit up breakfast for several days. That is just my opinion. Then he didn't want to go to school because he thought he might get sick at snack time or lunch.
So this morning we are back to our defiant self. Stomping, yelling, etc. I guess that is something I will have to try to deal with another way.
Why don't you wait till the weekend, and then you can watch him all day at home for 2 days...I would still call the doc, and ask their opinion...maybe you could even start at a 1/4 mg for a few days.....What a terrible position to be in. I feel for you. I don't have any info to add because I know nothing about Tenex and neither do any of the pediatricians I have spoken to. But I just want to let you know you aren't alone and the people on this web site really care!!!
I have noticed though that sometimes at night after a particularly rough day or days, when everyone has gone to bed and it is just you, screaming as loudly into your pillow as you can sometimes helps. LOL
I am interested in the Tenex thread. My son's dr. recommended trying it but before we do we are trying Focaline. We too have gone the gammit of all the stimulant drugs and are just about giving up and moving to either Tenex or Wellbutrin.... if you could, can you please tell me how to locate this thread. Thanks
Here you go...there are many other threads on the med on the medications forum, but this one has a lot of info....it goes back to before Chase was put on it....

We started Tenex last night and it was a nightmare. My ds couldn't fall asleep, couldn't fall asleep. I finally broke down and gave him melatonin in addition to the Tenex. He eventually did fall asleep and slept longer than usual this morning. But then he had breakfast and he vomitted it up and complained of stomaches.
My dh and I decided that we are not going to give the Tenex for a while and see how things go.

First of all, sending you a big hug.
Tenex (guanfacine) is actually used to treat tics and tourretts syndrome. It is also effective for some ADHD symptoms. I left you a message on the Tenex thread. That thread is very helpful for Tenex issues. We packed quite a bit of information in it.
I guess you are finding out the hard way that finding the right medication is a roller-coaster ride! It is just trial and error, unfortunately. It could take some months for you to find the right med combo. Please hang in there. You are not alone. So many of us are where you are right now. Lots of kids at our school just take Tenex with no stimulant (according to our nurse). Hopefully, this will be the one that works for your son. Don't give up on finding what will work for him. Good luck!My son has been struggleing really hard!! His meds are not working AT ALL!!! He was on Concert, Clonidine and Lamictal. We had to stop Concerta due to "TICS". He started having alot more problems! He was hospitalized yesterday and they are stopping his Clonidine and replacing it w/Tenex. He cannot take another stimulant at least for now because of the tics. I am so heartbroken and confused!!!! This medication thing is driving me crazy!!!! What works and what doesnt? How many meds do they have to go through? I hurt for him!!!! Please give me any imput you might have, I am desperate!!!
