Thought I’d introduce myself | ADHD Information

Once again welcome.....I know this board has helped me a lot!  I read posts daily.  Welcome, I have found that this board has really helped my sanity.  I don't cry as often and I think mostly it is because I have found that I am not alone in my worries for my son.  I have gotten some great advice from here.  Now if I could only get my husband to log in and read.  I think he would greatly benefit also then we could be a team effort.  Wish me luck.  And good luck to you!!!!!Welcome to the board. I hope you get some great advice and can share some of your life, too.

Another thing in common!  I, too, do home daycare!  I don't have any with ADHD, but I care for a set of twin boys that are Autistic.  They are age 5, but not quite potty trained.  They are so sweet and happy, and lovable, but like 4 foot tall 18 month olds so imagine the mischeif that they can get into!

Welcome to the board...it is so neat to see how the 'normal' siblings take the ADHD ones under their wing, once they know that it is not something they can control...my Jake is the same way with Chase.

Welcome to the board - it has saved my sanity many times and I'm sure you'll find a lot of support here.

Thought I'd introduce myself and my reason for joining :)

My ds is the reason for bringing me here. He was diagnosed at 3 with ODD and we were told that he had very little conscience and put on Ritalin. He was violent and uncontrollable, throwing chairs and safety gates and almost killing himself during a 2 hr rage by trying to pull a dresser on himself. He was re-evaluated a year later with ADHD and ODD but we chose to go without meds. He did ok until Gr. 2, when a horrific teacher sent him spiraling downward and we were back on meds. During this time, he started showing signs of Tourettes and OCD. At the end of Gr. 3, we pulled him off it again. The tics and obsessive behaviors stayed. We have struggled most of this year to find a med or med combo because most ADHD meds exhasterbate the Tourettes. After him running away and trying to pull his face off, we finally found help and currently he is on Concerta and Clonidine (we are trying to wean him off the Clonidine). Tics are minimal, OCD is a struggle but life is pretty good. He has gone from dr's telling us he had no future to a wonderful, caring, smart, athletic little boy. He has taught us so much and we are better people because of him. His dream is to be in the NHL.

His older sister is every parents dream. She is a wonderful girl who has gone from being her brothers punching bag to his biggest supporter. When she grows up she wants to help kids like her brother and as of right now, I can see it happening, she's really good at it. She has no interest in boys yet and her pony is her joy and her only boyfriend, lol!

My hubby is my best friend and we will be married 13 yrs this July. It has taken a long time but he finally has excepted our sons issues and has become his biggest advocate (and the saner parent)

For me, I have two other children in my daycare that are ADHD, ODD so it consumes a lot of my energy, but I love them for being unique and teaching me all that I know.

I am looking forward to getting to know everyone. This really seems like a wonderful place!
