My dd takes an extremely low dose .33mg, and it works wonderfully.

No test. This particular supplement is very safe (in the low doses you will be trying out-1 to 3mg). So it is something you just try and see if it is of benefit. Keep in mind that more is not better. Larger doses can cause nightmares and other problems. My oldest takes 1mg and it works great for her. It does not work for my youngest.

No I don't think anyone does...just break one in half and give him 1mg....it is a tiny dose, but quite effective most of the time.

I don't think that would hurt, or be too much to give him....you can crush it up and put it in applesauce if he won't take it by swallowing it.

Here the melatonin is over the counter, you don't need a doctor or anything, you can buy it anywhere.

hi all

parents whose children take melatonin

did you have to get your childs melatonin level cheeked before start taking?

at my sons last appointment i was telling pead how late my son goes to sleep (12.30am) he said to try the melatonin and see if works

this morning i received special delivery had to sign for. 90 capsules 2mg ive not gave him any and dont know weather to or not, thats if he would even take them

shouldnt i cheek fist to see if is level is low, if its not low and he has enough melatonin naturly, then why dosent his body till him its time to sleep?

we wouldnt give a child who DIDNT have adhd ritalin as its not needed, so im thinking if hes body is making enough melatonin? why give him more

i dont know what to do. the thought of him being in bed tomorow before 9.00pm is so tempting

my mum had her melatonin levels checked a few years back and she had to sit in the dark for hours then take saliver sample (from mouth) and have them sent of to georgeia

i cant see this happening my son hates the dark and the cost and waiting times

has anyone had there childs melatonin levels checked?

My son would NEVER go to sleep without it. He is up early no matter what time he goes to bed....brain is too active to sleep! I sometimes take it when my mind is wandering from a busy day! I recommend it!
My son takes Melatonin every night also and as the others say, it is very safe and effective.  I've done quite a bit of research on it.  We've tried a couple different prescription meds to help him get to sleep but the Melatonin is by far the safest.  Start with the lowest dose that is helpful for your child.  Even though they may not have lowered levels of Melatonin in their system, the stim meds still in their system at bedtime keep them from getting to sleep as they should.

The reason why you may have had to sign for your Melatonin is because many pharmacies, etc. are creating policies of not selling these products to teens because of the epidemic of sniffing, snorting, swallowing, etc. of just about anything that may give them a "buzz" or make them feel different. I was recently carded at a pharmacy for buying it and I', almost 40!

GNC has Melatonin 1mg that is chewable cherry flavored and only something for 60 tablets.  Cheapest and yummiest I've found.
In the UK (where mumoftwo lives) you need a doctor's script I believe to get it...mikmum was looking into it a few months ago....she is also in the UK.

One study (MIT link below) found that the effective dosage for sleep aid is 1/3 mg and that larger doses cause reactions that negate the sleepiness effect.  I bought a bottle of 1 mg. pills and divided each in thirds...works for me!

My son take melatonin...it's wonderful...he has 3mg every night....or else it's 1-30am when he gets to sleep...had a bit of trouble trying to get...only can get a perscription from the consultant....gp's can not prescribe it.... but it does work ever so well...he now gets his 12-13 hours sleep which he needs...or he's bad tempered all the next day....

Good luck...

do you think is 2mg is to much to start off on? i cant snap or break as its powder inside a capules

il have to get a mirror and a razer blade and start choping lol (only joking)

mY SON takes 3mg a night. We buy it at Walmart by the vitamins. No script needed..OTC.  He wakes up early but atleast he is sleeping now at a decent time. good luck

I used to take 1mg melatonin every night before bed, it made me tired but my mind races too much to allow me to fall asleep early enough. Sooo I went on imipramine to help with that and now im not tired enough to be able to fall asleep! And my mom wont let me take melatonin anymore because according to her, this naturally made body chemical might somehow affect the imipramine. I told her "what are you my mom or something? " haha so anyways im in a catch 22 since I have a 9:30 bedtime but cant fall asleep till around midnight. Neep help on persuading my mom to reconsider, any help?
