I am ready to give up

I was Diagnosed with Adult ADD a couple of years ago.  My first docotr put me on concerta.  It worked, not great, but it worked.  I had a few headaches when i initially started using the medication.  Well, i started a new job and started having anxiety attacks.  I do not believe it was related to the concerta, it was related to my boss .  The doc  then put me on zoloft and Welbutrin.  That was great.  Kept me in a womderful carefree mood.  BUt did not help with the ADD.  I just started a new job, so i thoght i would go to the Dr and try something new.  Fist, the straterra.  That was HORRIBLE!!  It made me soooo sick and put me in a really bad mood.  I was in such a foul mood, my husband was afraid i was going to hurt the kids.  I would never hurt my kids, but i was sure impatient with them.  So i stopped that pretty quick.  Especially since my brother told me he tried to cimmit suicide while he was on the straterra.  NEXT...

So i am now taking the adderall.  I am on day 7 and still soo sick.  I have never ending motion sickness.  I feel like i just stepped of a plane, or got off the teacups at Disney world.  The first 5 day i was on 10 mg, and I am on day 2 of 20 mg.  I personally can not function feeling this way.  I have two kids to take care of and sometime i think i will just have to deal with my problemslike i have my whole life, without meds.

Has anyone ever had this type of side effect with the adderall?  If so, how long did it last?  When will the madness end ?  Is there another way?  I feel the adderall working, and working great, but the nausea is definately taking over.

Any advice would be appreciated.  I dont want to give up, but i feel i have no choice.  And all the Dr say is, it will pass.  ITS NOT PASSING !

Help!

I dont take Adderall, but just wanted to give you a big  and send ya some lovin.  Its only now, 1 year from now, you may be married to some famous person, so take heart, keep positive, have faith.  And hopefully someone may be able to give you some info on here. It's not "passing" because you upped the dose. Try to take it with 8 ounces of water. Or eat it with some non acidic food. What I think is happening is the "amp" effects are giving you stomach problems, not the adderall. That's a common symptom on all the stimulants (including coffee) Are you taking the extended release (XR) form or the normal release. You could also try some good old fashioned milk.   Also, adderall increases the body's need for water. If your stomach is getting dried out the acid would become a problem.   If it were me.   First: I would drink it with sufficient water. I would continue to sip on water the rest of the day. If that didn't work Second: I'd eat a piece of bread with the dose. Third: I'd drink some milk when I felt the drug had been absorbed. Fourth-ninth:  (things I'd try before resorting to 10) Tenth: I'd lower the dose

yes, coffee tends to have that affect on me if i have too much.  But i am a big coffee drinker and usually non-stop from 8 - 12.  Since i started the Adderall XR i have had no desire for my coffee.  So i have not been drinking it.  Which probably explains the headaches.  But i can deal with a headache,  its the stomachache i can not function with.  As for eating with the meds...lets just say i have put on 3 lbs since i have been taking it.  All i do is eat hoping it will settle my stomach.  Everyone tells me that it is impossible to gain weight on these meds.  Leave it to me, i will defy the odds .  And i have have been drinking lots more water.  I was lucky in a normal day if i drank 8 oz of water in a day.  Now i can not get enough.

Believe it or not, i actually felt a little better when i upped the dose.

I have not tried the milk yet.  I think i will go pour myself a glass right now.

I just hope my body regulates soon.  Thanks so much for your advice.

Could cutting out the coffee be making my stomache upset?

Ok first of all let me say yes to the coffee. You are a coffee addict like me and without it you will continue to feel that way.You don't have a desire to drink it but you still need it.You should dring a small cup everyday before you take the meds and eat a small breakfast.I would not do the milk and you can not have ANY CITRUS 1 hour before or after you take the medicine. It reduces the effects of the med.As far as the doseage I agree with the other posting about the increse. You may have incresed to fast for you body.I know that there is a process of the increse but I say start low and only go to the next dose if you are doing good with the one you are on.This way you know what you can handle before you get sick, you may even need or want to try to break the doseage up and take part in the early morning and the rest at luch time.As far as the increase in your eating or lack of decrease I think it maybe because of the medicine not being taken correctly maybe you are taking it with citrus?Or maybe the doseage is not corrcet yet.I am proof that it will kill you desire to eat and in turn you will lose weight.I tried for years with no lost at all and as soon as I give up and decide to focus on getting my mind right it happened without me even knowing.I would forget to eat.  The side effects you are having is because of 2 things not drinking your coffee and increasing the dosage too fast.Try my advice and tell me how it works.Oh one more thing be sure not to drink to much coffee it will cause the nausea as well.My son was always nauseous(sp?) on Adderall if he did not eat enough breakfast.  Also you cannot eat or drink any cirtus while taking Adderall.  Good luck.

Hi Mokie,

I had a similar reaction to Straterra. It made me throw up, and then I got so lethargic I would sleep all weekend and still feel exausted. The longer I was on it, the sleepier I got. I stopped taking it and started waking up again. I started adderol a few weeks ago and it has helped a great deal, but I find that sometimes I get really, really irritable. Plus I'm getting really severe hot flashes. Might be slam-dunking into peri-menopause though. I also take wellbutrin which has proven to be the only anti-depressant that works for me. SSRI's and I do not mix well at all

At any rate, everyones chemistry is different. It often takes a number of attempts to find the right blend that works for you. I also have to ask, is your doctor a regular MD, or a psychiatrist? Regular MD's don't necessarily have the knowledge base about current psych meds that Psychiatrists have. Ask about Provigil.

Hang in there sweetie!

LOL I had diarrea for 2 weeks when I started adderall. It's just a side effect and your body adjusting. After that initial 2 week period I have never had another side effect and it works great for me.

This may not wind up being true for you with adderall but with any drugs you should try them for a month to see if they really work for you. Unless of course the side effects are severe then you should stop taking the drug immediately.
