I'm just wondering if anyone is on a high dose (90 mg) or higher of Adderall XR?
I've been diagnosed now for abt 2 yrs & have tried non-stimulants as well as about 5 different stimuants. About 4 months ago my psychiatrist changed me from Ritalin to Adderall because I was up to 100mg of Ritalin a day. Anyway, I started out on 30mg XR, 1/day in the mornings but after about 2 weeks I went back to her because I was falling asleep around noon when it wore off. She increased my med to 60mg/day. Now, I'm starting to fall asleep on the job around 3pm. I work in a busy call center & its not a good thing that this is happening. I take my 1st dose of the 30 XR at 5:30 am when I wake up then the 2nd dose I take at 10:30 am so by 3pm I'm ready for another dose to get me through until bedtime at least 9pm.
Is 90mg too high of a dosage? What's the highest you can go to? Should I ask her for a short acting dose to take at 3pm or another 30mg of the XR?
This med doesnt give me a racing heartbeat or even kill my appetite & I have to trouble falling asleep at night either. If I take a "med holiday" and not take my Adderall you cant get me out of the bed. All I want to do is sleep, since I have the inattentive type of ADD. If I not take it during the weekends, Im completely useless.
I want to go to her with helpful information since she was not to happy in the first place about increasing me to 60mg. I think I have a high tolerance to meds and also Im 200 lbs & only 5'3. I've gained over 40lbs in 2 years since she put me on Lexapro for my anxiety.
Thanks for any input.
Hi, the literature seems to indicate 60 mg Adderall XR is max daily dosage. I suspect a lot of doctors don't care to prescribe more than the "max" (sounds like your doctor may be one of them)...but you'll see a number of posts from folks here who are prescribed more than that.
60mg is the [recommended] max, not the absolute max. some people need higher dosages because of a high metabolism, like dtsjor and me. I used to take 108mg of concerta which only lasted 9-10 hours. I stopped taking that to try other meds but ill prolly get on it again
