my son's doctor wants to put him on this medication. but doing research on it has brought up some scary information. any comments
Hi, boys44. my son took risperdal for almost a year. we didnt have any scary side effects. the reason we took him off of it was because he was sleeping too much in the day and not able to sleep at night. it worked really really well other than that.
all meds have side effects and some of them sound scary but when they research a drug and only 1 patient reports a side effect it has to be listed. so some of the side effects may not ever happen again in another patient.
it is very scary to decide wether or not to put your child on a med. but you have to remember that everybody reacts to meds different.

It is scary to putyour child on any type of medication. Through trial and error on a couple different meds my son (7 yrs) is on Risperdal. It has made a big difference in him when it is working. What I notice with him as we work towards his target does is that he starts to regress with his behavior so that is my cue that we need to increase again. He is on 1.5mg right now but the dr. wants me to increase to 3mg which is scary to me. So I am going to slowly increase it for him. We have another check up next week. We have been spacing them out about 1 month inbetween but htis time he has not made it.
The only side effect that is noticable is his appetite. He claims he is always hungry. He has gained about 10lbs in 1 month. I have been trying to closely monitor his food choices and portions.

My little boy just started taking Risperdal0.5 mg at 8 am 3 pm and 8 pm along with morning dose of foclian and eveing dose of strattera he was having anger outburst so bad hitting his head against the wall hitting things since putting him on Risperdal he is doing great. it is scary to put him on so many things but seems to be working .each drug does different for each child what works for some might not for othersLittleone4u6539126.9160532407
