Hi,
I'm totally new to this...but 3 weeks ago my son was put on Aderall XR 5mg because he was having trouble with constantly touching other kids and talking and noise making. (he has a great teacher who has been working with him all year) but we finally made several trips to teh doctor and psychologist.
He was put on a "trial" dosage for 3 weeks, and the first three days were great! had no problems in school, I didn't notice any side affects and he was still my wonderful spunky and sweet boy. by the weekend, he began to have these meltdowns where he would obsess about one things and wouldn't let it go or be distracted for over an hour. We were at a friends house for the superbowl and I left his toy at home and for 1 hr he cried (not normal at all for him) and just wouldn't let it be. This has happend over and over again for the last 2 weeks.
I'm wondering if this is an affect of the Aderall. If anyone else has noticed fixations.
Also, he's been itching a lot and having joint pain in his neck and back ...is that a seperate issue?
Don't know about itching and joint pain, but as an adult starting on Adderall, I found myself focussed on things I wasn't focussing on before the med, and way more emotional too. Of course, it's probably easier for an adult to direct the new-found focusability whereas a child is more likely to focus on things we adults might find peculiar...just a guess.
my son has been on it for 2 weeks now and was very emotional at the beginning also. Similar situation. He is 7 so hard to redirect.
But he is leveling off now and hopefully it will get better as time goes on from here even!
Try giving it a month to see if it goes away. If it doesnt then maybe its the wrong med for him.
