We have a OT screening | ADHD Information

scheduled for tomorrow for sensory issues.  Just wanted to share and I will let you know how it goes.  I have all her paperwork together, some of her work, and am ready with questions and things I have observed.  Wish me luck.

Good luck Jillette.  You are in my prayers.

Yeah, good luck. Both my kids go for OT, they love it and they love their therapist. We haven't looked back.  Whenever I can I get reports from the OT to show the teacher and vice versa so that the one knows what the other is working on and they try to work on areas that are relevant in my children's lives at the moment.Good luck, your are also in my prayers. The results are the OT specialist was angry all the testing done on my child since she was 4 all had signs listed and problems however choose to say she did not need services.  He told me my kid fell through the cracks and that on the rating scale if you are at the bottom they give  you services my child is a few hairs above it so the district does not care and let it go and as a parent I had no clue.  My child does have Sensory Integration and needs help with her small motor.  I was also told the test in the past was  not a full screening like he did we were there for 2 hours and he observed stuff when we walked into the door he told  me.

I will get the written report in 2 weeks to present to the CSE and he told me he would meet with them to represent my child.  He also shared with me he has gone up against my district before and they are hard and refused.  It will be per visit to do it on my own which I will until I get the district to help.  I am prepared for a fight it that is what it takes for I have 2 of the School law books on my childs rights,  I have 2 lawyers numbers too for help and the school has to pay the bill and I have connections at the local LDA (learning disabilities association) people I have met through my job and at trainings and if they are involved the district is in trouble.  I say BRING IT ON!
Thanks for letting us know the results of the OT appointment.  It sounds like you are gathering together a good case for the school district to see clearly of her need for services.  Hang in there! You are doing a great job!Wow, that probably is a factor in her refusing to do homework/classwork. Holding a pencil and writing could be very uncomfortable for her. My dd has a fine motor issue also, although not enough to qualify for services. I didn't think she would ever learn to write when she was 4. She flat-out refused to even try. She's come a long way. She has pretty bad writing, though...Thanks.

I just knew it- so many posts and things you described- our kids could be twins.  I am so glad you got these results but at the same time so frustrated that your daughter fell through the cracks just like my son has.  Now you can really start making a difference for her.

When you say the distict, do you mean the school system or like early childhood development?  If you mean the school system, they will only give her OT that is education related.  It will not help that much with daily living, for that you will need private OT as well.  Please feel free to pm me.  I am so willing to help and give support.

A big deep breath and many hugs to you.

My son had OT help as well. He has fine motor difficulties. The school now lets him use an alpha smart to type some things rather then print. His printing is not very good and rather large. He is learning to write his name using cursive writing.Yes I mean the district.  As for other things going on with her I had her screened for PDD and the psychologist does not feel she meets all the criteria however I know in my heart of hearts there is more going on and she is still falling into cracks again.  She got mad the other night for I moved the tooth paste tubes around when cleaning the bathroom, things have to be orderly the way she thinks they should be.  I am told those are her "quirks".  I guess one step at a time and where the last appointment ended was the OT referral. The only thing I can add is that the older she gets, the more obvious the diagnosis will be. If she does have PDD, it will show itself more as she gets older and there is more of a noticable difference between her and her peers.

Just want to tell you good luck.

It seems as if everyday is a struggle, but our kids are worth the struggle no matter what the districts, teachers or other people think.

My son is very sensitive to things being moved too.  A couple days ago he totally lost it because he was playing with his hot wheels (they were lined up) and my daughter moved a couple slightly.  He hit her.  I put him in his room which on the way there he was violent with me.

Good luck.  I hope you are on the way so she does not fall through any more cracks.  It is so hard to keep working diligently and assertively so that does not happen.
