Hi, my son started off on methylin, the short form (liquid), but we soon noticed that when the meds were wearing off he would get extremely jittery, and angry. He was on it for about a month before we called the doctor and she suggested the that we switch to focalin , now the only way we can tell that his meds have worn off is when he starts to talk a lot or run around the houes non-stop. Hope this helps but I know children react differently to each medication.

I just received the March issue of ADDitude magazine and there's an advertisement Methylin. It's a grape chewable or liquid medication for ADHD. My son is almost 8 and is currently on Metadate CD 10mg, it's hard to try something different since he cannot swallow pills. I thought this might help. Does anybody know anything about this medication or has tried it? Thanks. It is a short acting methylphenidate (the same active ingredient in Metadate but a different form) the methylin ER is an extended release form but in a pill.
Other long acting meds not in pill form would be the dayatrana patch, focalin (sprinkle), ritalin LA (sprinkle), and Adderall XD (sprinkle, amphetamine salts).
Are you looking for a long acting or short acting form of med?
My oldest cannot swallow pills either and is on a trial of focalin (a methylphenidate-but just the more active isomer). This can be sprinkled like the Metadate.
