Children on Adderalll | ADHD Information

Share
Hello all. My son is on adderall and lately he has been rubbing his eyes. He went to the eye doctor and he said he had perfect vision. He also gets very whiney in the late afternoon and cries easy. Has anyone else seen this in their children and what did you do to solve it. I know you are not to mess with their medication but I have started to give it to him every other day and have seen a improvement. he was also repeating the last word of a sentence several times..like he couldn't remember if he said it yet or not. I do not want my child walking around in a fog, he is to smart for that. any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like the Adderall may not be the right med.maybe too strong, as it is the Strongest Stim available for ADHD.

Giving it every other day is not going to help, it is like starting over every other day.

my 7 year old was on it and was very emotional the first week in the evenings and the a.m. as the meds were wearing off during those times then during the day great results (he is on Adderall 5 mg in themorning).  but is doing better now.  he doesn't rub his eyes at all though.  We take Ritalin LA and I have noticed him rubbing his eyes alot lately.  I just thought maybe it was allergies.    I never thought to associate it with new meds. Yea, I'm with edbson...possibly the wrong kind of medication or the wrong dosage. Our ds is on Adderall 7.5mg (not XR) and doing fine. But last year we started him on Ritalin 5mg but he has severe "rebounding" in the afternoon and his OCD issues intensified. Then we tried Adderall XR but noticed the typical eating and sleeping problems associated with the drug. Currently we have him on straight Adderall 7.5mg once in the morning (not the time released XR form) and that's working out better.

Meds work differently for different kids. I wish you the best as you find the right kind.Thank you all for your comments and advice. We are moving to Ocean Springs in a week or so and I will see if I can find another doctor and check on his meds. He will be going to a new school and I plan on talking with the new teachers and giving her a heads up and asking her to keep me updated maybe twice a month on Kody's days..That way all three of us can get it right, the teacher, the doctor and us. I know he isn't a bad adhd, he just gets excited sometimes and it is hard for him to settle back down. Not a behavoir problem, just can't consintrate with added noises around him. He likes to show off for certain people, that is what gets him in trouble. And he isn't a leader but will follow. I have explained to him that he needs to use his own judgement on things and I always tell him how proud of him I am when he does good. He is my only child so it is easy to give him the extra attention. again, thanks for helping.
