just curious as to how long in your child system this med is? i realize that everyone is different, but i just thought i'd ask. i'm thinking that the pediatrician will want to switch my daughter from the short acting to this next week at her appointment, but we had such trouble with adderal long acting and falling asleep that i'm worried about that happening again with a long acting med. having said that, she does take melatonin 1 mg so maybe that would be enough this time around.
is there greater rebound with the LA vs. the short acting? did you see any difference in your child from the short acting vs. the LA ritalin? again, i realize that each person and situation re: meds is different.
my dd does not have any major side effects from the short acting. no stomach aches, no insomnia, etc. it's just been so much better since she stopped the adderal.

Chase has never been on short acting except for after school, if needed, so I cannot help with comparisons there.
But he was on Concerta, and had issues with appetite and sleep to a much greater extent than he does on Ritalin LA.
He says that he likes it better, it releases in 2 doses, one immediately, and one 4 hours later, so it seems that it works to some extent like the short acting, without the need for the noon dose. He is now hungry at lunch (unlike on the concerta), and still has enough med in his system for homework if he gets on it by 5 or 6 in the evening. If he doesn't or he has a larger than usual load of homework, I give him a short acting pill to tide him over....only have to do that about once every 2 weeks or so.
I think the information on the ritalin LA is that it is supposed to last 8 hours or so, and I notice no rebound at all, though I never noticed rebound on the concerta either...of course each child metabolizes meds differently, yada, yada......

Med. seems out of his system completely after 10 hours. I think its really individual though.
