Med Concerns | ADHD Information

My 15 year old was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 7. He has since taken a series of different meds and is currently taking 40 mg of Ritalin LA every morning. He has had truancy issues with school so I have had him placed on probation through the local Family Court system. I was told the other day by his probation officer that I have to physically watch him take his pill every morning. Problem is, I don't think the meds are working. I have voiced my concerns with his therapist, nurse practitioner and probation officer but no one seems to hear me. Now that he is in the court system I have to follow their recommendations. Any suggestions??

i dont think the court system will be as sensitive as you would hope them to be.i would seek out an alternate doctor and see what else might be the problem he might have other co-morbid conditions causing all sorts of other problems.

probation officers and law courts dont sound like great places for leniancy and understanding though. i bet you must have been worn out and at your whits end to go to those lengths.

They have alot more experience managing ADHD meds and dealing with the co-morbids that can occur with the ADHD. He may need to have his meds re-evaluated and maybe something added to help with behavior issues when the stimulant is not in his system. It is important to get him through this risky time in his life and allow time for him to mature. Good luck with this tough journey.
