Daytrana less effective each day? | ADHD Information

Most people get to the right dose and stay a while. With kids, they can change as they get older (larger size, more challenges at school to overcome, slower metabolism, going into puberty, going into adulthood and brain maturation). There are a number of people that seem to develope a tolerance to the meds. Some deal with this by skipping meds for a period to reset the body. This is all stuff to discuss with the doc as you are going through the process. vickie39142.6804398148I'm not sure...maybe both.  The drug company literature gives warnings that it can become habit forming, or whatever the term is.  But I've seen a few notes on this board about people eventually finding the right dose and sticking.  Perhaps adjustments are needed now and then.

I guess I'll find out.

I am new to the med thing...relatively speaking, my son has only been on meds for a year, but I have seen posts that state their child has been on a dose for 4 plus years....and my BIL's girlfriend has a son that has taken a stagnant dose of regular ritalin for years with no need for change.....so it does happen.sorry for just jumping into the convo but once you reach the optimum dose, can you eventually become tolerant to it and have to increase it again and again, or can you just stick with that dose until further notice?my son does not use daytrana, but many times when a med is tried, it works well for a time, then quits.....the dosage is raised until the effects do not go away in a week or two.....hang in there!

Jenny,

Like chasesmom79 said, you just have not found the right dose. My daughter was the same way on concerta. The lowest dose helped a little for a week, the next dose worked better for longer...

I am glad you have seen positive results. You are on the right track.

Thank you Chasesmom....I hope you're right...that's exactly what I wanted to hear.

Hi, I'm new here.  I'm 34 and just got diagnosed last week.  (After having been suspicious for about a year. :)

I started with 15mg Daytrana patch about 5 days ago.  The first day was fantastic...I started feeling calmer and more interested in my young daughter within the first 30-45 minutes.  Then I proceded to get through several cleaning projects without deliberating about every little decision.  I almost called my doctor then and there.

However, each day has been less effective...day two was goodish, day three I had severe patch adhesive problems and was not effective most of  the day, yesterday I was relatively calm but ditzy, and today, I feel sort of back to my normal ADD self.

I'm supposed to switch to 20mg tomorrow and am hoping for better results.  Anyone else notice these things?

ARe there any adults on board who use Daytrana?  I've read mostly about you wonderfully patient parents who apply them to your children.

This just sounds like you haven't found your optimum dose yet, keep titrating up and you should eventually get to a dose that continues to help you.  It just takes some time to get there....

Good luck!!
