does the appetite decrease go away? | ADHD Information

I will be seeing a new doc tomorrow who may or may not put me on stimulants..but I am concerned about the appetite loss. Does it only happen at the beginning, or as long as you are taking the med?

Why are you so concerned with the appetite thing? Although it is one of the most common side effects, its not extreme appetite supression. Plus your body should eventually get used to the side effect. If not then you and your doctor will find a correct dose.

If your appetite is suppressed, you can plan small meals at specified times to make sure you don't have issues with low blood sugar. Some people, like my DD have the exact opposite effect. Appetite increase is also a lesser known side effect. My husband didn't suffer the appetite loss at all (much to his dismay).  LOL.  My son did experience it but he always ate a huge breakfast and was very hungry for a huge, late dinner.  He has since changed and no longer has appetite problems.  Not sure if that is because of his other added meds which tend to increase appetite, or if he just stopped having that side effect!  Hope this helps.I may be changing my antidepressent as well. My doc mentioned prozac, which I'm pretty sure increases appetite, so that may balance out. I'm also taking zyprexa right now, so I feel like I'm always on a diet. If I always ate when I felt like it, I'd be huge. Both my doc and I no longer see the need for Zyprexa, though. My current therapist says the appetite side effect doesn't usually go away, but half the time I don't know whether I should believe what she says (I may be changing shrinks too, lol)
