My fragile self-esteem and a stupid game | ADHD Information

math is my best subject, but I still struggle a lot with it, and I can't do mental math at all. Often, people with ADHD have slow reaction times, and it would make sense that you didn't do well on a timed test---one of my biggest problems...

I went to a new doctor last week who asked me to repeat numbers back to him--up to 8 or 9 digits. He said by 14 or 15 y/o your mind is fully developed and you are able to repeat up to 8 or 9 digits..I am 17 and I went up to 7 or 8. I think that's what made him decide to write me an rx for concerta ....

It's possible you have something else going on like dyslexia or sensory processing disorders, but it could also just be ADHD . If it really bugs you, you should have an MD look into it with you. Are you on any ADD meds?

Best of luck!
Good luck.

I downloaded some brain-training software for my PDA.  It had a testing phase, timed games. Adding/subtracting/dividing numbers, picking out matching visual elements, etc.  Then it gives you the results.

It seems I have the brain of a child.  I immediately start thinking, great. Maybe Mom was having me tested as a child to see if I was developmentally disabled.  Oh crap.... Then I heard the words of my college calculus professor telling me.. "You know you are really very talented in math. You should think of changing your major."  Then I remembered my college grades, making the Dean's list over and over.

And I started laughing.  Kind of ironic, huh?

I tried helping my first grader with a 2nd grade math game yesterday.  Picking two numbers out of six to create an equation. But the problem that I had is that I could get two of the equations but not the third. All six numbers had to be used.  I felt really stupid after that. No good reason to feel stupid. That's an algebra-level problem, and your second-grader was being expected to solve it by trial-and-error.
