Chest Pains at Initial Use of Stimulants | ADHD Information

When I first began adderral, I had fairly constant chest irritation, chest muscle tensenes and pain.  After a few days, this disappeared.   Some time later, I took a complete break from the medicine.   At resumption, the pain, irritation and tenseness resumed.

How common is this?

My ds has been tried on many medications throughout the last six years and we had to take him off several because he would get "chest pains."  We weren't sure what it was but every trip to the ER reported just heart burn.  We have since found medication that doesn't give him this pain.  I'm using the Daytrana (methylphenadate) patches and have experienced this.  Actually mentioned it to the psych nurse, because I've been seen numerous times in the last 5 years for chest pain and irregular heartbeat.  The heart doctor told me my problem is benign, and that stress brings it on.

I wasn't sure if I was just worrying too much about starting meds, or if the meds were causing it.  Could be both.

I also notice that the chest pains mostly happen when my medication is either kicking in or wearing off.

Generally, I also notice that my heartrate is slower and more even on meds.  Probably because I feel calmer once the patch finally starts to work.

Then there's heartburn, possibly from food and appetite related med issues.  I tend to binge when it's wearing off....and then point to the Rolaids and expect my husband to telepathically understand my needs.
