Natural Cures to ADHD/ADD?????
I recently purchased books from Kevin Trudeau, "Natural Cures", in the book he stated things that I'm assuming will help take the place or reduce the amount of prescribed medication we have to give our kids. He states these things will cure the people with ADHD/ADD. I quote from the book, the cause of the disease is; "Candida, high fructose corn syrup (which is in everything we eat and drink), food additives, allergies, heavy metal toxicity, electromagnetic chaos, essential fatty acid deficiency". (There are other causes)The cures some are "candida cleanse, Omega-3s, no fast foods". There are other cures he list I'm assuming the person would have to do all he listed. Please buy the book to get all the information. Kevin Trudeau, Natural Cures "they" don't want you to know about. This is the first book he wrote.
For parents dealing with children diagnosted with ADD & ADHD like my children were I highly encourage you to buy the book and start implementing the changes in all of ya'll lives. Because It's going to take a combined effort of the family to help the child.
I am starting to implement the change in my household. We're elemenating the fast foods. I ordered the children Omega-3s chewables and am purchasing some for mself giving the benefits are both good for my children as well as myself. I have found giving my children a liquid multivitamin from seven seas help them with the lost of appetite from being on the Metadate along with a Pediasure a day.
My children are currently on 40mg and still get written up. My goal is to get them off the Metadate comletely and just implement the changes to our diet, and other suggestions Kevin made.
I'll keep ya'll up-to-date on the changes and the out come. In hopes that I'm helping someone else and their household. I know how frustation the disease is not only on the child but the people around the child. So I want to help and encourage others as we are all going through the same thing.......   Check out the Alternatives to Meds section of this board.  There is a lot of information there....

Go to the alterantive board for the latest information on alternatives.

I would not rely on that particular author for health advice. He has a history of fraud and is banned from infomercials but can still wite books because that is part of "Freedom of Speech":

I don't know anything about this author, but he's basically hitting on some of the major alternative approaches -- essential fatty acid deficiency, food allergies to high fructose corn syrup and preservatives (there are others like food dyes), and candida infection in the intestines. It sounds like an overview of alternative approaches. Is it just theoretical or does it outline how to carry out each of these alternatives? If is just theoretical, then you can find information on all of these approaches and more on the alternatives board, with personal experiences tossed in. The reference to heavy metal toxicity is associated with autism, not ADHD, unless he discusses mineral deficiencies.Although there are altenatives that are sometimes effective for some with ADHD, ther is no "cure" natural or otherwise.

I think that possibly some people (children and adults) have adverse reactions to certain foods and additives that mimic ADHD behaviors.  So, when those things are restricted or removed from the individuals diet, the behaviors improve.  Or,  ADHD-like behaviors are improved when parents learn more effective parenting techniques.  So these people then believe with all their heart that the ADHD is 'cured'.

IMO, if it is true ADHD, the only treatment is meds and therapy.  There is no cure.

These diets have been proven in at least one study (double blind) to actually help in only a very small percentage.

In my families case, my children have never acted worse after eating/ingesting anything.....except when I tried the fish oils on my son....then he got horrible acid reflux that was only alleviated with discontinuation of the fish oil.

The book does not actually go into any "cures". It pontificates and directs you to a web site and a news letter you can subscribe to to get to the "cures". You can get much more info on the alternative board without paying for a book and then a news letter.

From the link above:

"Also, when you buy Trudeau's book you will be advised that to get the full story on the natural cures you bought the book to learn about you must visit his website. There you will be told that to get the full story you will have to subscribe to NatureCures.com for either .95 a month or 9 for a lifetime. The latter is the much better deal, of course, because if you follow his advice you will probably live to be about 150 years old."
