Has anyone tried the Ritalin Patch? | ADHD Information

My son is ten and has the same problem for 2 years with the adderall rx. every morning was a struggle to get him to take it.  I tried everything.  He was prescribed the patch about 6 months ago and he has not had to may issues with it.  Although there is a red mark when he takes it of and he sometimes will take it off before he gets home from school.  For him it is the perfect answer to pills.  He doesn't complain about it in the morning.  One negative that I am trying to figure out is, why is it so expensive.  It costs me 128 a month just for the medication.  I suggest you give it a try.  Good luck! Thank you so much....I really appreciate your feedback....have you seen any side effects that you didn't like? Such as stomach pain or skin problems from the patch itself? We use Daytrana patch and are extremely happy with it.We use it and love it!  Ds's first two classes are gym and band.  I could care less what he's like in gym class as long as he doesn't get into trouble and he has no problem focusing in band because he likes it.  By the time the core academic classes have started, the patch has kicked in.

On the Adderall xr, it's a time-release thing and if you break it up, it will all hit his bloodstream at once.  If you absolutely have to use a pill, use the regular formula.  Our co-pays were higher for the XR than they were for the regular adderall.

Try the patch and see what you think.  Read some of the threads on the med board, too.  Good luck!
My son was just diagnosed with ADHD and he is six. He was prescribed Adderall XR. I tried to put the medicine into milk so he can drink it and he doesn't get all of the med. He is very weird with food anyway ( if I were to sprinkle anything on his food he would know and freak out) so I can't put it into his food. He can't swallow the pill because he is a very gaggy kid and he would gag or throw up. I would really like to try the patch but I want to hear from others who have tried it first. Please help me.go to the medications forum....and do a search....it is called daytrana and there are many topics on it there.  The main issues seem to be that it takes a while to start working once applied, and that the adhesive has issues with both peeling the backing before applying and some children have skin rashes associated with the application site....I will try to bump some threads for you on the medications forum....I bumped two threads to the top for you on the meds forum....looks like one of them was originated here, so it also bumped to the top on the parents forumThank you so much for your help... no problemDoesn't your insurance cover the patch?
