This is an alternative treatment that has not had scientific studies done on it....that is why the only thing you find are the manufacturers statements.  I tried this on my son for months before we medicated, and not a thing changed for him...BUT he is not a bit hyperactive...just inattentive, so I cannot attest to if it aids in that aspect at all.

Is there a reason that your son was put on strattera instead of a stimulant?  Like tendency to tics? Or was it just the doctor's preference?  I have read that it takes up to 6 weeks after reaching the target dose (dosed very exactly by weight) to see optimum results....and if you are not on the right dose for weight, there will likely be unwanted side effects....

edbson, a member on this site is very knowledgeable on the strattera...you may want to send a PM to edbson....and ask any questions...

many thanks. the dr thought he'd be better starting on strattera as he said it's milder than ritalin. he's been on the higher dose for exactly six weeks and his outbursts have got worse and worse, coming to a head yesterday with a major meltdown which was when i really started questioning if strattera is the best drug for him.

will ask edbson, thanks for the info,

I tried Strattera for my ds and it was a nightmare.  He was extrememly unfocused and more frustrated than ever.  He was on Concerta prior to that and we had to try something else because it wasn't working anymore.  We since have put him on Adderall and it is wonderful!

What is his dose? What is his weight?

Straterra is VERY weight dependent, and if a dose is too high/too low it will cause these side effects/

also, 6 weeks is barely long enough for it to be fully effective, give it a couple more weeks.

he's on 40 mg, not sure of his weight. His weight would be extremely important. At 40 mgs his weight would have to be somewhere between 66 and 73 lbs.

has anyone used this for adhd? our son is on strattera at the moment but the side effects aren't good. i saw this on an american website but can't find any reviews anywhere except the ones the manufacturers have put on the web.
