teenager adhd pyschiatrists | ADHD Information

GMAN,
I agree with CSMOMMY that what you should be looking for is a family therapist not necessarily a psychiatrist (they are also cheaper). You already know what your child's challenges are and how to medically treat them. What you are probably now dealing with is behavior and self perception issues.  A very competent therapist especially one dealing with teenagers in general maybe more of a resource then you suspect.

hello, my son is 16 he is having a hard time in school...he does not want to take his meds...I would like to bring him to a psychiotrist..that deals with adhd teenagers as his or hers speciality???does anyone in the nj area have any suggetions???thanx g man

Sorry can't offer any help. I've been searching for a good Psychiatrist that specialises in ADHD in NJ for a long time. At this point if I find a shrink that knows about adhd I don't care if he specializes in children, teens or seniors I will call him and say hey your treating me too.

So far I've found plenty of bad doctors that didn't seem to know much of anything and pushed more meds on me then I could count.

If you do find any good Psychiatrists in New Jersey please drop me a note and let me know. I've been driving myself crazy and it seemed like I was the only ADHD person in all of NJ.

Good Luck

Cara

gman, look for family therapists & then call & do some interviewing over the phone.  Your son is not in this alone, you & your spouse may also be asked to come in alone or all together.  Let the therapist know what youare looking for.  I spoke with several therapists for my, at that time, 8 year old, & wanted someone that wouldn't push meds, liked children but would not baby them, would be my sons advocate & help me with the school.  And that was what I found. csmommy38292.6926388889
