I dont know if its just me, but when people write long posts, i sometimes find it hard to read all of it, when its in a big chunk of writing because I lose track and concentration. Most are fine, but I lose concentartion on the big chunks of writing
Is it just me??
And Im not trying to be really rude, because the long posts are really useful and interesting and I usually get a lot out of them, but I just wanted to know if anybody else find them hard to read when theyre in big chunks of writing.
IIs it annoying to read long posts even if they are chunked off into manageable paragraphs?
I hope not since that is how I present the info I have to help people, or answer their questions.
Nope long posts are fine if they are chopped up. I would urge people to break up there long posts and don't worry about making proper paragraphs. I'd say try to break it about every 5 lines or so. I am amazed at how much easier it is to read that way.I do, thats why if I have a lot of info to give I break it up, otherwise I wouldn't be able to edit it!I feel guilty for writing such long posts, but I'm a writer/document designer by profession and I do know the value of "white space." I, too, have a hard time reading posts that have no paragraphs in them.
hehe! Im so glad others feel the same. It would be great if people split up their writing into paragraphs or even different posts. Different colours also really help.OOOppps. I am a long writer, it's usually cause I try to make a point
and try to think of a way to say it........by then its a long para with no point. I will try to do short ones
scats
I guess maby thats one thing there is no solution to. I have tried books on tape but its the same thing. Maby a movie will come out on insurance licensing
(I would probably wait for the DVD
)
I hope this is not changing the subject, I was wondering if any
one has suggestions on getting through material that is required
reading. I have a book that I was supposed to read for 1 year.
keep reading the first couple of pages and forget what I read
the book is dusty and the job is pressuring the reading of the
book. (its boring too!
)
This is very common for people with ADD. What even worse than long paragraphs are one written in all CAPS.LOL sorry scats. I can offer support in the I know exactly how you feel area, but unfortunately no suggestions. I usually have to wait until my reading skill is "working" sometimes I wait months and finally get a good reading day. My good reading days usually only work for something I'm really into. So far haven't found a way to make it work for things I have no interest in.
No, its not targeted at anyone, cos i think we all write long paragraphs as we try to work out what we're saying! I do too.
Its cool thought that we all struggle to concentrate in long posts so now we can all try and remember to put in paragraphs and different colours!!
Exactly the post can be as long as you like. As long as there are lots spaces in that long post most of us can read and respond with ease.I find it funny that people feel the need to "police" my posts when so many other posters talk about much worse things with absoultely no conscious or remorse for the terrible things they say. I was merely supporting the writer. There's no need to jump in and console.I've just reread everything here to make sure I didn't miss anything and I still don't see anyone policing others posts. I never saw anyone accuse anyone of anything or anything nasty said in this entire thread.
Am I missing something, please if I am let me know. All I see is a conversation stating how we can make our posts easier for each other to read and respond to.
haha all those things work great and make a post a lot easier to use....but the hard thing is for the "writer" to actually apply them to what they're writing! lolBullet points work well too - just basic facts outlinedUh, but mostly people with ADD are on this board, so of course you're going to get people who drone on and on and....
I studied web content--the typical rule is to "chunk" paragraphs. Every 3 sentences should make a new paragraph.
The computer screen is generally harder to read, and most people online scan anyway, so that's partially why this technique is used.
Of course, it helps on an ADD board!
