Strattera and urination problems? | ADHD Information
One of the side effects of Strattera is urination issues. It is actually being used in kids with Bedwetting problems.
What is his weight? It is dosed by weight and not by symptoms, and the ramp period if when you have the most side effects.
I WOULD call the Psych and find out why he was started so high, he should have been started at 10 mgs.

Edbson -- It's being USED in kids with bedwetting problems? Weird. From
what I've read on the Web today it seems like it would CAUSE bedwetting
problems. though most of what I've read has been from adult males,
nothing else about kids.
I think my son probably weighs about 140 - maybe more - he's about
five-eight.
I thought the 18 mg was the lowest dose. His psych. put him up to 25
yesterday and I went ahead and gave him the 25 this morning. I hope that
wasn't a mistake, I called the psych and left a message, but no response
yet. I'm also going to call the pediatrician Monday a.m.
I appreciate the support. I have two ADHD boys and I suspect my DH is
also undiagnosed. I love them all madly but I'm a hyper-focused, self-
admitted control freak so I'm glad to have discovered this board!
No, actually 10 mgs is the lowest dose. His target dose would be between 75 mgs and 100 mgs, so you have a long ramp period ahead.
I would give it a while before taking him off of it, the side effects should go away.It could also just be hormones.
Hello all ... I'm new to this message board. My 14 y.o. son has been on
Strattera only gor a few days (past tries with Concerta and Ritalin have
been disastrous). Last night he told me he's been having problems with
urinating - after he's finished, or thinks he is, and buttons back up, he
finds himself, uh, wet ... This morning I went online and immediately
made the connection between the Strattera and the problem. My question
is twofold:
1. Have any of your sons experienced something similar and
2. IF SO IS IT A TEMPORARY OR PERMANENT SIDE EFFECT?
He's only on 18 mg right now - shrink gave us new scrip for 25
yesterday. I know he's supposed to go up to about 60 eventually, so I'm
thinking, if this is happening at 18 what will it be like at 60?
It's discouraging because he was very positive about the Strat so far ... I'm
not even going to tell him about the connection between the urination
thing and the Strat until I can get the answer to the question of whether it
will go away. I think it's going to be pretty hard to sell a teenager on a
med that makes you wet yourself every time you go to the bathroom!
Thanks in advance. I would call the doctor immediately!!! And let me know what he/she says for this is serious. Poor kid he cannot go to school like that.
Definetely call your doctor- If I'm remembering correctly this is one of the more serious side effects.
Just wanted to let everybody know what's happened with this, in case you
have a similar problem with your son.
My son's psych, called me this morning from out of town to say "cut him
back to 18 mg for a day, and then end it."
Apparently this is not a side effect to be trifled with, so I thought people
would like to know ...
