Diet to help kids with adhd it helped us | ADHD Information
I have found that my son is sensitive to perservitives, colourings, additives and berries and since then his ADD has improved so that he now has to take only 5mg of Dex in the morning so I do see the benifits of monotoring the diet.
Has anyone here heard of the Feingold diet? Your child may not truly be ADHD it could be a food allergy.
You remove a lot of items from the children's diet for 2 weeks and slowly reintroduce an item one at a time to see if food may be a trigger for bad behavior.
I discovered that string cheese and my ds don't mix. 2 days in a row he had it for snack and within an hour each day he would have a melt down at the smallest thing. He hasn't had string cheese since and no issues. He can have pizza with cheese no issues there though.
Also, I heard that adding Omega-3 tablets and Amino acids also works wonders. And for those of you who want to try a natural alternative to medicine- please check it out. Now I am not a doctor but I just think children today are overly medicated- just did some research and found this out and tried it. Within 3 weeks with the diet, the supplements and behavior modification - my ds is doing so well. We were even able to take him off meds competely.

Allergies often mimic ADHD symptoms, and a diet change can cure that. I am glad that you found the solution to your family's problem.
I agree that children are overmedicated, but that does not negate the fact that there are some true cases of ADHD, that can only be controlled with meds and therapy....never cured by diet.
Again, I am so happy that you no longer need meds and you child is doing well!
Ever been in a classroom with 20 four year old who have just been given red Kool- Aid?
Yeah, the food dyes do it to all of them. But that's great that you found something that works for your son.
We have been using the Feingold diet for 3 years, and it has done nothing to help with dd's ADHD, it has however helped us all lose weight and eat healthier.Welcome newmom, you might check out the Alternatives and Complimentary Medications section of this board. Many of us have had much success with methods similar to the ones you are using!

Speaking of diets, we've discovered that our ds has terrible days when he gets his hands on lot of candy. The Feingold diet sound interesting. I'll have to check it out... thanks.
