HAS ANYONE HAD SUCCESS W/MEDICATION?? | ADHD Information

I also had past history with "self-medicating". So my doctor was hesitant. But I explained that it was 20 years ago, so he went ahead and prescribed it. So far we have had no problems.

THANKS FOR ALL THE REPLIES.  So far it seems most of the people with success are on some type of stimulant, my doc will prescribe strattera only at this time because of my past - 15 years ago- abuse of stimulants.  Funny, I think I was using them to cope with the ADHD symptoms and do not think I would abuse the meds.  My kids and life are far more important! I have been on Strattera for 3 weeks, my dose was just increased.  Hoping I feel some of the relief you guys seem to have found.  I hope Strattera works for me and if not I hope he wil be willing to try one of the others like Adderal or Concerta.

Still looking for success stories with Strattera!!!!!

definitely have significant relief from the concerta i was prescribed. it does not fix everything by a long shot but the difference is a definite and positive one :)  Good luck :)

I HAVE BEEN TAKING CONCERTA, WHICH IS GREAT FOR ME, AND THEN IN THE AFTERNOON RITALIN.  I THINK ONCE YOU GET THE RIGHT MEDS FOR YOUR BODY THAT WILL BE YOUR SUCESS STORY.  I KNOW I WAS ACTUALLY LIKE CLEARING A FOG FROM MY HEAD WHEN THE MEDS STARTING WORKING

couldthisbeit,

I have been on a combination of Ritalin and wellabutrin for 5 years now. I have had great success with both of these medications. Some people have problems with the stimulant medications with heart palpitations. I hope you find the right combination for you. Good Luck!

I've had a ton of success with Adderall. I've been on it for 4 years and my life has changed for the better. I'm still not perfect (don't think and meds can fix everything) but I'm a lot closer to "normal" then I ever have been.

I am having fairly good success with Concerta. It helps me make it through the day. It seems to "clear the fog" a good bit and helps to keep me moving forward.

But I know I still need coaching and/or therapy to undue all the years of unconcious "coping habits" I have developed.

But the medication has definately helped me to keep my job.

Regular Adderall for me. I started about 3 yrs ago w/1 20mg in the morning. By 1:00 or so I felt HORRIBLE, jittery, snappy,depressed....that just let me die like NOW feeling. That was before I was officially DX'ed w/ADD. Than it was increased to 2 a day....nah! So that just moved that feeling up to about 5:00.

Finally, I convinced my new doc to let me try 3 20mg a day. That would keep me feeling as normal as I could feel, so I could enjoy the rest of the evening without "really wanting to SERIOUSLY wanting to hurt someone". Also I have severe insomnia, so the late dose of Adderall dosen't keep me awake, b/c I take Ambian for sleep and Klonopin for anxiety. By 11:00, I'm usually for bed. But occaisonally the meds don't work as they should, so I have "an internet marathon"!

Tried Adderall XL, but I don't do well with the once a day thing. So far Adderall seems to work for me

I do Adderall XR in the morning and a reg Adderall when that wears off to make it the rest of the day.

I have not heard many success stories - so far strattera is not the panacea I had hoped; although I am on a low dose and it has only been 15 days.  PLEASE let me know if you have had significant relief with your Adult ADHD and medication.

I need some positive input!!! When I first started I felt better now I am once again unmotivated, inattentive, impulsive and inattentive.

Let's hear something positive - thanks! Laura:)

I don't know if there is a "panacea ".  I am relatively new to the whole ADHD thing.  All I do know is that, for all of the side effects that come with Adderall, it is well worth the long periods of clarity/ focus I experience which had been lacking most my life in my opinion.

Some anger ... worth it.  ( it's not a fit of rage, just some annoyances that may be given too much weight...for me anyway...so far.  But keep in mind I was told my ADHD is more innatentive than hyperactive.)

Doesn't last as long as I'd like.... still worth it.  ( they started me with 20 mg per day then switched me to 30 in the morning and 10 at 5 pm.  I still find myself losing gas and waiting for the next dose, but at least I know it's comming.)

I think my cigarette smoking may have doubled or tripled... won't know if it was worth it until I have cancer.

To have an objective and actually follow through with it without getting inane thoughts of the vacation I was in, my third grade teacher, the picture on the wall, the dog I had when I was 8...or was I 10...no definitely 8 and I really should clean this room because... oh man that's where I put my keys well at least I could leave home on time today unlike yesterday, or the day before.

This is priceless to me.

But again this is my opinion about Adderall and it may not work for you as it did me.  Also I have not tried any other medication to really be called a conoseur.  I just know how I was before/ after.
