Depression and strattera | ADHD Information

You might need to change his meds Jude. Straterra works a lot like anti-deprassant drugs where it builds up over time in the body. So that could be the reason his behavoir has changed. Of course it could be something completely different so it's always best to report any changes or weird behavior to your doctor.

Jude911,

Yes I agree with MafiaKiddo I would talk to your Doctor. My doctor couldn't do any more for my son she sent us to a pediatric psychiatrist I was the best move we ever made.

Hi all,

My daughter has been on 25 mg of strattera since the beginning of July. She is nearly seven . At first, it seemed to work really well, and we were pleased with the results. She was happier, more focused, able to get along better socially. In the last 8 weeks or so, we've seen a real deterioration in her mood and her abilities. I know it coincides with the start of school, and first grade has been incredibly hard for her, both academically and socially. I attributed her mood and her regression back to "rigid" behavior to the stress of school- we worked even harder ( if possible!) on our work at home- she sees a behavioral therapist and we do multiple mods at home. But now she seems truly depressed- angry , aggressive, apathetic- all of the A's! She also has  ODD, so we've dealt with anger and defiance before, but she says she doesn't care and she really seems not to. She has one friend , and she is not going to have her much longer- she had her over on friday , and was incredibly mean and aggressive, I had to call her mom to pick her up. My husband and I are just heart broken for her.

It is so sad to see a little girl so angry and upset. We were wondering if anyone has any experience with strattera causing or exacerbating depression. We are calling our doc tomorrow to find out about ramping dwon the meds to rule that out. Thanks in advance.

Allison

I know what you're talking about my 11year old son had a simalir problem with strattera. He went from a happy go lucky child to a child that didn't want to do the things he once loved. The Doctor took him off it and we are still looking for a medication that works well. It's been 3 months. I hope you have better luck!

HI,

I'm new to this site.  I'm responding to zenmommy & tamaraw1969.

My son, who is 11 yo started Stattera in July. At first it really seemed to help. Within the last 2 months he has changed completely!  He is aggressive, punching holes in walls.  Cussing me and his teachers. Doesn't care about anything!.  His school work, his attitude. He flies off the handle in a matter of seconds.  Could anyone with similar problems give me some advice or direct me where to look for info about this

Thanks
