Hi everyone, my sweet little 7 year old son was dx just last week with ADD - inattentive only. We have started him on Medadate CD 10 mg. He has been on it for 5 days, I have'nt talked to his teachers since yesterday morning. She said no difference with the meds, yet. However, this morning I noticed a change in him, I could really tell that his med had kicked it. He was following directions, without being told 5 times, and actually remembered things that I did'nt. He was a great help in getting ready for school and out the door. Just wondering, does it sometimes take a few days for it to get in his system? I will be talking to his teacher tommorrow and then reporting to his doctor to see if we need to go up on his dose or not. Any info you can give me is appreciated. Thanks!
It may take a few days for him to adjust to the med, but you usually see results of the stimulants right away. It may be that he is still adjusting to them in the school setting or that they are not quite high enough for the extra demands of school vs home. Along with the teacher's comments, watch for how much homework he has and how long it takes to do it.
My youngest has less homework because she gets more done in class and the homework is done quickly (compared to the many hours of pain it caused before. My oldest (inattentive) told me that she can better "hear" the teacher's instructions and she gets through her math class easily now (it was the hardest subject for her before).
Thanks, I'm pretty sure they will have to make the dosage stronger...when
