This topic is quite interesting. I find that when the weather changes my son changes slightly. I wonder if there is something to back up what we are all wondering. jfla2...the sensory thing makes sense. I've always thought my son has some sensory issues. He can't stand to wear buttons and likes very soft things to cuddle with. He is always hot to touch and yet he is always cold and wants that soft blanket or something when watching t.v.
my son has similar but different difficulties (does that make any sense?) his mood swings more with sunny verses dreary days. anyone have that prob?
Hi everyone, I am a newbie and am very interested to see this thread. I think I can shed some light on it. I am a single mum with 5kids. I am diagnosed ADHD as are 3 of my kids (the other 2 are aspergers!).
Temperature is something that I have wrestled with all of my life, going from cold to hot! sticky, clammy! I have been there and done that, the kids are like it too. I am a trained nurse with speciality interests in endocrinology and ASC.
Last year I took my son to see a paediatric neurologist in London. Amongst the million or so ( I have ADHD and exaggerate!) blood tests that he had, we noticed that his SERINE level was abnormally low. The lab had not mentioned it but I and my bessie mate ( a world expert in ASC, how fortunate am I!) picked up on it straight away.
Deciding to research it, we discovered that SERINE is a non-essential amino acid NOT available in the UK!! Why did the health shops not have it in stock? No demand!!
We finally sourced Phosphatidyl Serine Complex 500mg softgels on the net and had it flown over from the USA.
Within 20mins of my son taking the first capsule he had stopped sweating, his skin tone and colour was beautiful, he looked a different child (angelic!). The attention was there as was the concentration. He felt much happier in himself and his stammer was greatly lessened!
Encouraged and amazed I decided to try a capsule too! Same result only in my case ALL my menopausal sweats GONE! The major total colectomy surgery that was booked has been cancelled and I feel BRILLIANT! All my kids and I have had terrible problems with temperture regulation but now it is a thing of the past.
PS works within 20minutes, lasts for 4-5hrs and has no rebound or horrid side effect, just a reminder when the sweats or chillys return.
We have checked it out with all our physicians, neurologists and psychiatrists, they are as staggered as we are and encouraging its use.
Friends of mine with ADHD have tried it also and found the same amazing effects so we know it is not our family.
For the first time ever we are able to wear clothes! We are usually stripping off or covering up! My kids used to live in their boxer shorts whatever the weather outside or the visitors inside
My children and I who were on Ritalin, Concerta etc etc are now off all stimulants and rely just on Serine.
I hope that the diamond we have found here goes someway to help some of you out there. I have a feeling it will. I have posted on the forum under various headings more about Serine for those who are interested.
Please let me know if any of you do happen to try it, thanks and good luck
Crikey sorry folks, did not realise the font before was so HUGE! Apologies, makes me stand out like a sore thumb (nothing new in that then!!)
In answer to the question how often?
I find that Serine works within 20mins and lasts for 4-5hrs. My 11yr old has it 3xdaily and I manage 4 very nicely!! We use the Phosphatidyl Serine 500mg. The maximum dose is 2gms a day.
I really hope it helps you as much as it has us.
Good Luck
Are there any known side effects on this. It sounds like supplement and therefore, is it regulated by anyone!
Serine is a non-essential amino acid. We (me,my sons and about 8 friends) have been taking it for 6mths now. We do not see or feel any side effects at all! The only thing I really notice is the return of the chillys or tropics as soon as it wears off.
A company own the world wide rights! Mmmmm must be special then!
All the doctors that look after me and the kids are VERY supportive of our serine supplementation and encouraging us.
Hope that helps

My son has difficulty with this as well. *I* have problems with this. I freeze all winter long, but I have always found it far more tolerable than the summer heat. I am MISERABLE in the summer. But, I always tend to be more sensitive to most things than other people. Sounds ae louder, odors are stronger, etc. and my son is the same way. I also have ADHD so I think that perhaps it is a common trait.
But, to get back on topic, my son always wakes up in the night if he is too hot or too cold. I really have to regulate the tempeture in his room and the clothing he wears to bed. And since I am the same i generally know wheher he will be facing a hot or cold night as strange as that sounds. It took me awhile though to figure this out. I started realizing that on the hottest nights he was waking up sweating and if it was too cold and his bedroom door was closed he was not geting enough heat in his room he would wake up. Thankfully, this is an easy fix. Now, if I could just get him to eat food. He can't stand food that smells strange or has a weird texture either, so he eats very few things. So not only is the ADHD meds a problem with his appetite he also is a very finicky eater. Anyway, I could write a book and the boys are throwing themselves at each other so I need to get them settled for bed.

That pretty much describes my daughter. Neither my husband nor I have ADHD (our daughter was adopted) so I often feel that I can't relate to what she is going through. Hubbie and I have both noticed that she seems to have a small comfort zone. She does much better on the meds, but it seems discomfort and changes in schedule/weather can still throw her for a loop.
Anyway, we had a talk about her needing to let us know when in discomfort so that we can do something to help before it gets to be too much of a frustration for her. As soon as the house cooled down, so did she.
Of course, the temperature dropped from 80 to 40 yesterday. She did come to tell me it was too cold in the house for her. She got lots of kudos for that and I made a big deal about turning on the heat.
