I am trying to determine whether I have become tolerant, or merely used to, this medicine.
My fast and noticeable heartbeat has slowed. I do not feel intensely focused on the matter at hand, but merely like a non-adhd person probably feels when working on a task at hand--focused, but more relaxed, i guess. Side affects like dry mouth/thirst and acid reflux have subsided.
So....have I become tolerant, or is this just to be expected??
I don't normally give advice, as I am pretty new to this myself, but feeling "intensely focused" sounds to me like hyperfocus. If you feel like a non-ADHD person, isn't that a good thing? How do you feel on the meds vs. off them? From what you're saying, it sounds like they're working the way they should be, but I'm no psychiatrist. From my understanding, usually if you are tolerant, the med is doing pretty much nothing for you, so if you feel focused it sounds like it's doing something.
JohnMadden, what you describe sounds very similar to my experience...those side effects of dry mouth and feeling your heartbeat wore off with me in about six weeks too. And about that time, as I looked around and saw my garage still overflowing with stuff, and piles of paper in my office, I also came to the realization that this wonderful medication wasn't going to do it all for me. Yes, it helped me to focus better and stay on an even keel and gave me way more patience, but I still procrastinated. Now I knew why folks on meds seek coaches and therapists and such.... it's a multi-faceted approach we must customize individually. So, back to your question... (for me, "tolerant" and "used to" are synonymous) if the drug's effect is still doing its job but the side effects have diminished or disappeared, then you're in a great spot right now and shouldn't have to worry 'bout a thing!
